Was this a rose maze? That was Sebelia’s first, ordinary guess. But it was proven wrong in an instant. As she passed beneath the archway of roses, she blinked in awe, speechless.

What kind of magic did he work in just two weeks?

Inside the towering hedges, in a hidden space she hadn’t even realized existed, stood a charming, round building with gilded trim. It was so adorable it looked like a porcelain teacup.

If her memory was correct, this was where the old greenhouse had been.

“What is this?”

She asked in confusion. She met Dehart’s gaze, silently urging him to explain. He only bit his lip in embarrassment and, instead of answering, tugged her gently by the hand.

“Could we go inside first?”

His voice was almost shaky. It sounded so earnest it left Sebelia no room to resist.

Inside, the space felt far larger than it appeared from outside. She didn’t know what to call this place, but it was clear that someone had poured their heart into it.

The round ceiling was painted with angels in purple robes, bordered in gold, and pristine white columns stood at the edges. Cream-colored walls caught the sunlight through wide windows, bathing everything in a gentle glow.

“…”

Once seated, neither of them said a word. One was too flustered; the other could hardly believe that such a perfect space had appeared in just two weeks.

At last, Dehart managed to collect himself and spoke first.

“I never expected to show you this so soon. The inside isn’t even finished yet, and there’s so much left to do…”

Sebelia blinked in astonishment. This was unfinished? Whatever her expression revealed, Dehart seemed to misinterpret it and let out a low groan.

“After reading the ambassador’s letter, I lost my head. When I came to my senses, somehow it had turned into this.”

So that was it. Shocked by Rossel’s letter, he’d whisked her away to a place that wasn’t even ready. The suspicion that had been creeping in since she first saw the rose-hedged garden was now becoming a certainty.

This was a space prepared just for her.

No wonder there had been churned earth and a makeshift vegetable plot behind the glass. Sebelia found herself smiling at the little lake and the half-finished garden visible through the windows.

She didn’t know what had possessed him to create such a place, but the sincerity itself deserved a praise. Even more, he had somehow managed to capture her taste exactly.

As Sebelia slowly took in the details, she was startled to find Dehart kneeling before her.

“Why are you on the floor?”

“I just thought this would be best.”

Dehart took a deep breath before meeting her eyes.

Was he about to confess? Sebelia’s heart raced.

“When we went to solve that strange incident at the exhibition. I realized something.”

“Yes?”

“If your power is bound to a place, it recreates the memories stored there as illusions.”

“That…?”

Is it really the time? She was puzzled. Dehart lowered his voice.

“After your funeral, I saw visions of you, Bella.”

“…!”

“Not because I’d inhaled any hallucinogens, but because, in that tiny, shabby attic you’d lived in, I could see you again. Even in a room with nothing of yours left, I’d see you, shouting for your nanny to run as flames and smoke filled the air.”

Pain flickered across his golden eyes.

“I’ll never know how much horror happened there, or how you survived such suffering…”

Swallowing a trembling breath, Dehart desperately held onto Sebelia’s hand.

“But after that day, I made a decision. I couldn’t take you back to Hillend Hall, to a place that was my home, but for you, was only pain and loneliness.”

Pressing her hands to his forehead, Dehart whispered.

“This is a selfish gift, I know. I can’t erase your past, and scars will always remain, but… I wanted to give you a place so peaceful and joyful that you’d never have to look back at your wounds. I wanted to give you that kind of space.”

“…”

“You may not know, but in a few days, the Inverness estate will be yours. So even if you leave, I hope you’ll come back here someday.”

Biting his lip, he continued.

“No, actually… I hope you’ll stay. I hope you’ll fill this place with everything you want. I hope it becomes so happy and wonderful that you never want to leave. And I want to be here with you, if you’ll let me.”

His golden eyes, clear as glass, gazed up at Sebelia. His hands, trembling with earnest hope, still held hers firmly.

“It may not look like much now, but just wait. Soon, you’ll love it even more. I’m planning a garden for herbs, too…”
