“If that’s the case, I’ll just have to deliver your medicine every day.”

“There’s really no need to go that far…”

“It’s not as if I can employ the imperial doctor here at your house, can I?”

Rosalyn blinked in surprise at the unexpected direction of the conversation, about to protest, but Shateian was already making his exit.

“Well then, I had a lovely time. I hope to see both of you again soon.”

Just as suddenly as he’d appeared, Shateian vanished like the wind. Sebelia watched the space where he’d been, then turned to Rosalyn.

“So, you’ll be staying here from today?”

“S-sorry. I was just trying to stand my ground with the Crown Prince, and I sort of blurted it out…”

“No need to apologize. I was about to say it’s actually a good idea.”

Sebelia smiled brightly and took Rosalyn’s hand. Truthfully, the house had been too quiet and lonely without Dehart around.

“Let’s have Miss Rosalyn’s things moved over soon. I’ll send the knights in the morning to inform the Crown Prince.”

“Thank you…”

Rosalyn’s cheeks flushed at Sebelia’s warm gaze and gentle grip. Just then, a servant announced that lunch was ready.

“Let’s eat first, then maybe I can show you around the garden afterward?”

Sebelia beamed, leading her guest toward the dining room.

By the time Dehart returned, the Inverness estate had gained another resident.

“Welcome back, my lord.”

The butler greeted as Dehart stepped out of the carriage and climbed the steps. As the butler relayed the most important updates, Dehart tuned out the less relevant details—but then suddenly felt an intense stare.

“…”

Is it that dustball cat? He turned his head casually, only to find himself locked in a stare with another pair of golden eyes—so similar, it was almost like looking in a mirror.

“…”

“…”

It felt surreal, even for Dehart, to see eyes that mirrored his own so perfectly.

“Rosalyn—”

But before he could finish, Rosalyn bolted away, quick as a deer. Dehart was briefly startled by her speed, but soon turned to glare at the butler, as if to ask why none of the major news included anything about Rosalyn.

The butler looked panicked and was about to explain when—

“Um, well, you see—”

“Oh, Dehart?”

A timely savior appeared—Sebelia, descending the grand staircase in the foyer.

“What brings you back? Didn’t you say you’d return in two days?”

“I wanted to surprise you.”

Dehart sheepishly took Sebelia’s hand and escorted her down the stairs. Sebelia looked at him with a smile, then suddenly recalled something.

“Rosalyn mentioned she’d be waiting at the entrance…”

She realized at once what had happened: the two must have met in the foyer, and Rosalyn must have run away on sight.

“Hm.”

“Bella?”

Well, this wasn’t the way she’d planned to explain things, but Sebelia wasn’t flustered.

“Let’s get you changed first, then we’ll talk about your trip north—and I’ll fill you in on everything that happened here while you were gone.”

Dehart studied her for a moment, then nodded slowly. He had a lot he wanted to ask and say, but he knew now wasn’t the time.

While Dehart changed, Sebelia met briefly with Rosalyn, then joined him for an early lunch. She couldn’t help noticing the kitchen staff sweating from the rush to prepare a meal ahead of schedule.

But there was a good reason. She’d heard from Eli that Dehart had skipped meals and rushed back in a hurry.

“If you keep this up, I really will make Watts move back in full-time!”

Sebelia threatened, half-joking. That prospect seemed to scare Dehart, who immediately apologized.

“I’m sorry! Please, anything but that.”

As mistress of the house, Sebelia decided to let him off with a warning, finding his furrowed expression rather endearing.

“Just this once, I’ll let it slide.”

“How generous—truly fitting for the mistress of the house.”

“Don’t talk like you’re my servant.”

Memories of Dehart fussing over her like a servant at the lab made Sebelia shudder.

“Why not? You are the mistress of this place.”

“Even so.”

“Master.”

He whispered playfully, making Sebelia gape in disbelief before they both burst out laughing. Their laughter echoed down the wide hallway as they playfully teased each other on their way to the dining room.

As they walked, Dehart did his best to avoid any mention of Hillend Hall, but when Sebelia brought it up, he hesitated—though he was also a bit pleased.

“The ones most enthusiastic about renovating the main house are Ryan and the new butler. They’ve decided that since work is already underway, they may as well redo the whole interior.”

“So the renovation will take even longer, then?”
