Chapter 310
When Sebelia asked kindly, Maya just flopped down right in the middle of the garden bed, purring away. A little gasp escaped her lips as dust flew up from Maya’s gray fur—but the cat, entirely unbothered, simply rolled her back over the dirt with a shameless expression.
“Oh…”
A long sigh slipped out. It was already too late. Sebelia took off her wide-brimmed hat, put away her gardening tools, and gently picked Maya up. The cat’s long tail flicked contentedly around her arm, clearly enjoying the cozy embrace.
“I never thought I’d come to understand Mr. Claude’s troubles like this…”
Sebelia shook her head, thinking there couldn’t be another spoiled, attention-seeking cat like this anywhere.
But according to Claude, it had managed just fine on its own in its old territory in Suffredi. Yet ever since coming to the capital, Maya had acted like an overgrown kitten.
Sensing her uneasy mood, Maya bumped her forehead into Sebelia’s arm and let out a small meow. Sebelia’s expression instantly softened as she adjusted her hold on Maya. That was when she noticed something sparkling in her arms.
A feeling of déjà vu pricked at her memory.
“No way…”
A chill ran down the back of her neck as a wave of unease swept over her. Sebelia set Maya down on the sofa in the guesthouse and examined the cat’s plush fur more closely. Sure enough, near the foreleg and chest, something shiny was tangled up.
Under the sunlight, a bracelet glimmered—one Sebelia had never seen around the house before.
“Where in the world did you get this?”
This wasn’t the first time Maya’s little thieving habit had surfaced. The capital residence was full of fancy, expensive things—a veritable treasure trove for a cat like Maya.
Last time, it was the Crown Prince’s brooch she took a liking to.
Sebelia still remembered her shock when Maya leapt out from behind the sofa with the royal brooch. Shateian had just laughed it off, but Sebelia had wanted to sink into the floor with embarrassment.
“And who does this belong to this time, huh? Where’d you swipe it from, Maya?”
As she scolded the cat, Maya only waved her front paws around before hopping off and darting away.
“Aaah…”
Resigned, Sebelia bent her head and let out another sigh, then began to examine the bracelet more closely. By assessing the craftsmanship and style, she could at least narrow down whose it might be.
It’s not some cheap trinket or knockoff, that’s for sure.
That much was clear.
The platinum bracelet was exquisitely made, with a smooth shine. At first glance, it looked like two thick strands of platinum twisted together, but a closer look revealed each strand was woven from dozens of fine golden threads—finer than yarn. Tiny gemstones, like grains of sand, were set among the threads and shimmered with iridescence depending on the light.
Sebelia was honestly amazed by the care that had gone into its making. She couldn’t even guess how much time and effort it had taken to craft just one bracelet.
The two thick platinum cords crossed over each other in a figure-eight, with blue-green gemstones filling the spaces in between. Depending on the angle, the stones shifted from a deep blue to a vivid green. Along the edges, transparent gems were set like flower petals, each one precisely cut and fitted.
There was no maker’s mark, but it was clearly the work of a renowned artisan.
“Hmm…”
Such intricate work combined with a classic, understated design—she grew more intrigued the longer she looked. Usually, items like this were made to be passed down through generations, designed to outlast fleeting trends.
But for something that seemed old, the gemstone cuts were surprisingly modern.
Where on earth did she find this?
While pondering Maya’s remarkable skills, Sebelia suddenly gasped as an idea struck her.
“Oh, could it be…?”
Ever since Rosalyn had moved into the house, Maya had spent nearly all her time in Rosalyn’s room. The new furniture and other things Rosalyn brought with her seemed to fascinate Maya to no end.
So maybe this was the gift Dehart gave Rosalyn today.
It would make sense—the understated yet elegant design fit the northern taste perfectly. Feeling she’d solved the mystery, Sebelia stood up, intending to return the bracelet to Rosalyn.
But things took an unexpected turn.
“Oh, Dehart? What are you doing here?”
Sebelia’s eyes widened when she spotted Dehart coming out of Rosalyn’s room. He seemed just as surprised to see her.
“I was just talking with her about moving to the north.”
“Ah, that…”
She could have helped with that conversation, Sebelia thought, remembering how Rosalyn had asked her to mediate when she first arrived. Still, she was glad Rosalyn had gained the courage to talk to Dehart herself.
“What brings you here?”
Dehart asked, Sebelia remembered her own reason for coming. She held out the bracelet.
“I think Maya stole something of Rosalyn’s, so I came to return it. This is the gift you bought for her, right?”
Just then, the door opened and Rosalyn peeked out from behind it.
