The Lockwood delegation visited Belkram around the time news of Duke Inverness’s wedding was spreading everywhere.

Around then, Maya had become obsessed with a new hobby: leaping into piles of autumn leaves scattered around the garden. Every time she did, the mansion turned into chaos and Dehart would flee to the annex. Though it was obvious to everyone he was actually sneaking off to see Sebelia, no one commented on it.

But for Balak, who had come to visit his one and only cousin, nothing about this situation sat right with him. Least of all the fact that her soon-to-be husband was her ex-husband.

So, despite his already busy schedule, Balak squeezed visits to the Inverness estate into his daily routine, coming to see Sebelia almost every day.

“Is it really necessary to get married? There’s nothing wrong with just living together, you know.”

Even though it had been ages since Sebelia had written to announce her engagement, Balak still hadn’t given up. By now, he was starting to repeat himself.

Sebelia didn’t even bother responding to his comments anymore; she just carried on with her work. As she reviewed the paperwork Balak had brought for establishing a trading company, she scooped up Maya, who had started tugging at her arm, and handed her off to Balak.

“Alright, don’t bother your busy sister—go to your uncle.”

Balak frowned, but he didn’t push Maya away. With the warm little creature sprawled across his lap, he let out a sigh.

“It’s not as if you’re at an age where marriage is urgent. There’s no rush—take your time, see more of the world first. There’s even a ship setting sail for Lubradi soon.”

“Brother, I think you forgot to sign this form.”

“What? That can’t be. Let me see.”

When Balak checked the document Sebelia handed him, he found she was right—he’d missed a signature, and his brow creased in annoyance.

“That Ludmil… He begged me to take care of this, and look what happens.”

Any thoughts of sabotaging the wedding seemed to have vanished from his mind. Sebelia hid a smile as she watched Balak turn his full attention to the stack of paperwork, scanning for other missed signatures.

He doesn’t actually want to stop the wedding.

If he were really serious about it, he would have shown it through actions, not words. For example, he might have claimed that he didn’t approve of Dehart and threatened to break off diplomatic relations just to get his way.

But of course, that never happened. After all, Balak was someone who, having lost so much time already, now only wanted happiness for her.

And Rossel felt the same.

Once this is over, I suppose I’ll be heading to Lockwood as planned.

Before Balak became ambassador, Rossel had asked her to visit Lockwood before the wedding—to prove that ‘Bella Ashrent’ was alive and well in her homeland before marrying Dehart.

Though honestly, I suspect that wasn’t the real reason…

While Sebelia was lost in thought, Dehart returned from work, and it was Balak who noticed his arrival before she did.

“Ugh.”

Balak grumbled, not even bothering to smooth his frown as he stayed put. Just a moment after the servant announced his arrival, Dehart appeared, as if on cue.

“Here again?”

Clearly, the feeling was mutual—they weren’t exactly thrilled to see each other. Balak’s sarcastic greeting came out before any pleasantries, and Dehart just scoffed.

The two men exchanged silent, tense glares until Sebelia snapped out of her thoughts.

“Dehart, when did you get here?”

“Just a moment ago. Oh, don’t get up.”

The man came over and placed a gentle kiss on Sebelia’s cheek. He patted her shoulder, tucked her blanket in, and checked her temperature with the back of his hand—clearly something he’d done more than a few times.

“How are you feeling?”

“I’m fine. Why do you ask all of a sudden?”

“Don’t lie. I know you skipped lunch today because you weren’t feeling well.”

When Sebelia averted her eyes, Dehart chuckled softly, lightly playing with her hair as he gazed at her, utterly smitten. Then, as if flipping a switch, he straightened up and addressed Balak.

“So, when are you leaving?”

The difference in tone when speaking to Balak was night and day, and Balak was momentarily at a loss for words.

“Don’t you think it’s about time you stopped hanging around and complaining all the time, especially when your cousin isn’t even feeling well? What sort of cousin acts like this?”

Balak could hardly believe it—Who is he to look at me like that? His frustration reached its peak, but since it was true that Sebelia wasn’t in great shape, he could only settle for pursing his lips.

“You realize I was invited for dinner, right? Even though you knew she skipped lunch.”

Balak couldn’t help but be amused to see Dehart’s expression twist at that.
