“I’m going to lean on her and cling to her until she get sick of it, so please let me see her.”

Sebelia’s blue eyes shone brightly in the hallway, lit by the first light of dawn.

“If you don’t, you’ll be the only one not invited to the wedding, so you’d better think carefully.”

The threat was so serious it was almost frightening, and Rossel surrendered immediately, both hands raised in defeat. Chuckling, he helped Sebelia to her feet.

“All right, but for now, get some sleep.”

Rossel gently brushed the sulky look from her eyes and led her back to bed.

“No matter how hard your mother is working at her rehabilitation, she’s still at her weakest in the mornings.”

“…”

“You won’t be able to see her until after noon, so glaring at me won’t help, Bela.”

Finally, Sebelia blinked a few times, still looking a bit sulky, then quietly crawled under the covers. Watching her, Rossel couldn’t help but smile.

It reminded him so much of an awkward teenager. Even when he found her crouched in the hallway, he felt as if he were living out the small, everyday dreams of his youth.

This is exactly how I wanted things to be—bickering, making up, and just being together.

Even before she was born, he used to imagine days like this. Rossel, lost in those distant memories, carefully tucked her blanket around her a bit more.

“See you tomorrow.”

Sebelia nodded from under the covers, the soft rustle filling the room.

“Goodnight, Brother.”

“Goodnight, you too.”

Feeling a strange warmth in his heart, Rossel quietly left the room. He supposed he should get some sleep himself.

“Lost in thought again?”

After breakfast, while strolling through the garden with her, Dehart suddenly spoke, his face tinged with annoyance. Sebelia, arm-in-arm with him and drifting in thought, turned her head.

“What did you say?”

“What did I say?”

“Dehart.”

“Maybe you were too distracted to hear me? I think you heard the gardener over there say something.”

“How could I hear someone I can’t even see?”

“Who knows? You manage to ignore me even when I’m right next to you, but maybe you have a sixth sense for distant voices.”

“Oh, stop it!”

“No matter how sweetly you glare at me, I know nothing. I have nothing to say to a fiance who just leaves me hanging.”

He purposely avoided her gaze, sulking. Sebelia leaned in closer, resting her weight on his arm.

“I’m sorry. Are you mad at me?”

“…”

“I didn’t leave you on purpose.”

“Hmph.”

“I mean it.”

When she reached out to cup his cheek, only then did he look at her. Under the sunlight, his golden eyes sparkled as he stared at her.

“You keep leaving me out. You ask me to go for a walk, but your mind is somewhere else. Am I just the fish you’ve already caught now?”

There was a hint of genuine disappointment in his tone, his downcast eyes looking almost dejected. Sebelia opened her arms and hugged him from the front.

“I’m really sorry. Truly.”

“You’re such a sneak.”

“Me?”

“You know I can’t say anything back when you do this.”

Dehart tried to sound gruff but couldn’t hide the delight in his voice as he hugged her back. Sebelia giggled softly in his arms.

“So, are you going to tell me what you said earlier or not?”

“You’re just asking because you already know, aren’t you?”

“Well, maybe halfway?”

Her voice was lighter than usual, with a touch of childish whining, and Dehart frowned, sensing she was more excited than usual.

“Did something really happen?”

His low voice has his familiar concern. Sebelia exhaled softly and, rising up on tiptoe, rested her chin on his shoulder.

“You know…”

“Yes?”

He gently rubbed her back, the way you might comfort a scared child. Buoyed by the warmth of his embrace, Sebelia squeezed him a little tighter and whispered quickly.

“They say my mother woke up.”

Dehart’s hand stilled, and he drew back, golden eyes wide with surprise. Sebelia smiled at him.

“I’m going to see her soon.”

“That’s wonderful. Really.”

With a trembling breath, Dehart pulled her into a tighter embrace. With Sebelia on tiptoe, their hearts beat together, the sound pounding in her ears as loudly as her own excitement.

Who knows how long they stayed like that, gazing at each other with embarrassed smiles. Then, still holding hands, they continued their peaceful walk through the garden.

Until, not long after, someone called out for Sebelia.
