Her reason grew hazy, and she became increasingly desperate for an alpha who could cool her burning body.
‘I can’t… stay here like this.’
It would be disastrous if someone passed by.
“Haa, haa……”
Her face, which had been pale as a ghost earlier, was now flushed with color.
The breaths escaping her lips were hot, and the heat spreading through her body continued to intensify.
A heavy sensation gathered in her lower abdomen, and an aching throb spread between her legs.
Knowing all too well what this sign meant, Ellia panted as she continued feeling along the ground with trembling hands.
But the suppressant was nowhere to be seen.
‘Ahh.’
Just as her heart sank into dark despair, in stark contrast to her body beginning to burn.
Step.
She sensed someone nearby.
Startled, Ellia’s shoulders jerked.
She had been so preoccupied with searching for the suppressant that she hadn’t even noticed someone approaching.
Like a frightened rabbit, Ellia hurriedly hid herself between the palace wall and the thick bushes.
She hadn’t found the suppressant, but avoiding the stranger took priority now.
If the approaching person was an alpha, there might be no way to undo what will happen in her current state.
Desperately supporting her body as it swayed on the verge of collapsing, Ellia braced herself against the wall.
As she crouched as low as possible among the foliage, the presence drew close.
It was directly in front of the bush where she was hiding.
“……”
Ellia slowly steadied her breathing and held her breath.
She covered her mouth with her own hand and struggled to control the pheromones that refused to obey her.
Then she peered beyond the bushes with anxiously trembling eyes.
It was a man.
She couldn’t see his face.
He had his back turned to her.
All she could see was the black suit covering his entire body and his broad back.
‘Who… is he?’
He wasn’t dressed like an attendant.
Was he one of the mourners who had come to the funeral?
Judging by the black suit he wore, that seemed possible.
Many nobles had visited the royal palace on a day like today, so he might have been one of them.
“……”
The man, visible only from behind, remained standing there without moving for some time.
He merely appeared to look around as though searching for something.
Watching him anxiously from between the bushes, Ellia pressed her hand even harder over her mouth.
There was no reason for someone to suddenly appear in such a deserted place.
Perhaps that man had unconsciously sensed Ellia’s pheromones and followed them here.
‘This is dangerous.’
She desperately wanted him to leave. Unfortunately, before the man moved away, Ellia’s consciousness began to fade first.
‘I can’t…’
Her body had barely eaten anything recently. And the heat of her cycle continued to rise.
On top of that, forcing herself to hold her breath was more than her body could endure.
She had reached her limit.
In the end, Ellia’s eyes rolled back.
Slump.
She lost consciousness behind the bushes.

Dante Urs stopped walking without realizing it.
‘Pheromones?’
He reflexively wrinkled the bridge of his nose. But then he couldn’t help pausing.
Pheromones had always smelled so repulsive to him.
Yet the pheromones he could smell now carried a scent that, for the first time in his life, didn’t make him uncomfortable.
He had been born a pure-blooded alpha, a rarity said to exist among only a tiny fraction of alphas.
He stood at the very top of the hierarchy even among alphas.
Most omegas couldn’t remain in their right minds when they were near him, and even other alphas instinctively recognized Dante as a being superior to themselves.
They said it was an omega’s fate to be drawn to a powerful alpha. But whenever they saw him, they rushed at him as though drugged, releasing pheromones everywhere, so Dante had grown thoroughly sick of omegas.
The pheromones of an omega in heat were said to drive alphas into rut.
But as though mocking the laws of the world, Dante found the pheromones of every omega equally unwelcome.
No, he had never once thought that an omega’s pheromones smelled pleasant.
He had even stood unmoved before an omega in heat and thrown her out the door because she stank.
He despised touching, smelling, or even being near omegas so intensely that he refused to keep them close. Rumors had even spread that he might be impotent.
Of course, no one was bold enough to say such a thing in front of him.
Yes. Those damned pheromones.
That strange scent, almost like the natural body odor unique to alphas and omegas.
To him, an omega’s pheromones had always smelled like cheap perfume, so strong and repulsive that they made him want to vomit.
‘But this……’
The pheromones he could smell now were different.
The faint scent in the air was sweet at its edges, enough to make him regret even the traces scattered by the breeze.
He inhaled deeply, engraving the pheromones of the faceless omega into the depths of his mind.
His instincts as an alpha revealed an intense possessiveness, demanding that he claim this omega for himself.
At the same time, his sharpened senses caught even the faint heat mingled with the pheromones.
