Si-heon was in a very poor mood.

His spirits, which had already sunk that morning when Ga-eun mentioned his mother and child, were completely ruined by Noh Man-su’s words.

“Director Myung Hyun-ju contacted us. Executive Director Jung Yeo-jin from SJ International has visited the museum.”

“Suddenly?”

“Yes, it seems she came unannounced. We were informed immediately upon her arrival.”

Si-heon checked his watch.

Even if he sent someone now, Jung Yeo-jin would have already vented her frustration at Ga-eun about not getting the director position. She might have even left by now.

“Bring me Kwon Si-jung’s files.”

“Yes, sir.”

After examining the files Noh Man-su sent, Si-heon headed to the conference room for the general meeting.

At the entrance, he encountered Si-jung and, hands in his pockets, blocked the door while quietly observing his cousin.

Meeting Si-heon’s eyes, Si-jung flinched involuntarily, then immediately became irritated at himself for doing so.

Frowning, Si-jung raised his head defiantly, conscious of his subordinates’ gazes behind him.

“Would you mind not blocking the way, Director Kwon Si-heon? Can’t you see we’re here for the meeting?”

“Didn’t notice. Department Head Kwon Si-jung is just so small.”

Si-jung bit the inside of his lip hard.

‘This bastard really…’

Every time he heard that “Department Head” title, his fury rose at the stark contrast with Kwon Si-heon’s position as Managing Director.

Despite being only a year apart, their grandfather Chairman Kwon Soon-yeol only ever doted on Kwon Si-heon, always going on about “our eldest grandson.”

Even if he was a pitiful child abandoned by his parents, such blatant favoritism that disrupted the power balance had only served to torment Si-jung and his father.

“They say children inherit their mother’s intelligence.”

Si-jung furrowed his brow at Si-heon’s words.

“What are you talking about all of a sudden?”

“If intelligence is lacking, teach them. If teaching doesn’t work, train them.”

“What does that…”

Si-heon leaned forward and whispered so only Si-jung could hear.

“That’s to say you’re screwed today because of your dim-witted wife.”

With those words, Si-heon walked into the conference room.

His secretarial staff, including Chief Secretary Noh Man-su who was as imposing and physically impressive as Si-heon himself, followed him inside.

“…Is he a gangster or what? He’s single-handedly ruining the group’s image.”

Si-jung clicked his tongue in disapproval.

But contrary to his composed exterior, he was burning up inside.

“I need to make a call. Go ahead.”

“Yes, Department Head.”

However, once in the hallway, Si-jung couldn’t make the call to his wife.

Chairman Kwon Soon-yeol had arrived earlier than expected.

“Grand- I mean, Chairman.”

“Why aren’t you inside yet?”

“Well, that’s…”

“Coming in after me counts as being late. If that’s how you want it handled, be my guest.”

“No, sir.”

Damn it. Cursing internally, Si-jung hurried back to his seat and tried calling his wife.

But she didn’t answer. After trying a couple more times, he messaged her secretary.

[Wife’s location]

Shortly after, a response buzzed in.

[She went to Hwanhee Museum.]

[Without going to work?]

[Yes. She said she was going to the director’s office.]

Damn it, damn it! Si-jung chewed his lip anxiously, his leg bouncing.

He had witnessed firsthand at Kwon Si-heon’s wedding just how protective he was of his wife.

Not only did he never leave her side, but he even smiled while whispering in her ear constantly.

That was the first time he learned Kwon Si-heon could smile. He was sure most guests had the same thought.

He hadn’t allowed anyone to approach her, naturally making it impossible to even exchange a word.

As if flaunting that he was the only man allowed near this woman.

That day, Kwon Si-heon had been like a guard dog protecting his bride.

It continued after the wedding too.

Si-heon’s wife had never participated in any public activities.

It was undoubtedly a calculated move, conscious of the immense attention and scrutiny his wife would attract.

‘What should I do? Yeo-jin will definitely blow up about losing the director position…’

With the meeting just starting, he couldn’t make any more contact or leave.

If he tried such a thing during a meeting attended by Chairman Kwon, it was clear he would fall from favor with no chance of recovery.
