Magnus quickly ordered the leash to be released. The dog was still barking madly, and when the knight holding the leash hesitated, Magnus took it and released the dog himself.

The shadowy magical beast, dripping darkness, growled as it slowly approached Eir, then brutally bit the same spot it had bitten before.

Originally used by witches to hunt down and torture traitors, the dog was programmed to attack the same wound repeatedly.

Eir threw her head back, trying to suppress her groans. The knights, having decided she was indeed a witch, had mostly shaken off their initial confusion.

The sensation of sharp teeth tearing into her wound and chewing relentlessly was horrifying, especially since it was her first time experiencing something like this.

“Come on! Tell me your true name and why you kidnapped Rubel! If you just say that, I’ll spare your life.”

Magnus cruelly added that if she wanted to speak, she should raise her hand. For a while, only Eir’s suppressed groans filled the silent night. The wind blew, and the torches the knights held cast eerie shadows.

Magnus spat at Eir, saying.

“You’re vicious! No wonder you’re a witch. I’ll cut off your fingers one by one until you talk.”

Just as Magnus raised his sword, something flew from behind and knocked the sword out of his hand. The sword flew through the air and embedded itself in a tree.

“What the hell!”

Magnus turned around angrily and came face to face with Rubel, whose expression was icy.

“Didn’t you hear the horn?”

The knights, pale at Rubel’s appearance, quickly pulled the dog away from Eir. Eir groaned deeply, sweating profusely from the pain of her torn flesh.

When Magnus saw his detestable younger brother, he trembled with the emotions boiling inside him. But he couldn’t show hostility toward Rubel here.

His father’s orders were clear, and Magnus was someone who cared about appearances.

“Oh, my brother. You’re alive. As expected.”

Magnus forced an awkward, hearty laugh and spread his arms toward Rubel. But Rubel’s gaze and all his attention were fixed on Eir’s bloodied, mangled leg.

Seeing her in agony made his blood freeze, and an unbearable tightness gripped his chest.

Rubel, momentarily dazed, only realized his foolish brother was approaching him when it was too late and irritably pushed his arms away.

“What are you doing? I asked if you heard the horn.”

“I heard it! Well, I must have. Why, did someone attack you? Is that why you’re upset? Haha, just tell me who dared touch you, and I’ll teach them a lesson.”

“So you heard it.”

Rubel muttered softly, and the knights, sensing his twisted mood, couldn’t help but look at Magnus with pity.

And as expected, Rubel swung his sword and kicked Magnus in the shin. Magnus gasped and bent over, and Rubel, as if he had been waiting for this, kicked him in the stomach, sending him sprawling backward.

As Magnus tried to protest, Rubel pressed the blade of his sword against his neck.

“Disobeying the orders of the knight commander usually costs you your life.”

Rubel stared down at him for a moment, then suddenly pointed the tip of his sword at Eir’s injured leg.

“But out of respect for the blood on your body, I’ll stop here.”

With that, he lowered the blade.

Thud. The sword pierced Magnus’s leg.

“Aaaah!!”

A long, pained groan echoed through the mountains. Rubel didn’t pull the sword out and instead stared at his disgusting brother for a while before finally gesturing to a priest who had been standing awkwardly by.

The priest hurried toward Magnus but stopped when he saw Rubel’s still-piercing gaze. Realizing something, he let out a low “Ah…” and went to Eir instead.

Magnus’s leg had to remain impaled by the sword until Eir’s leg was fully healed.
