Chapter 147

“Ugh. It hurts.”
Eir sighed lightly as she looked in the mirror at her swollen, red and blue cheek.
She was quite surprised when Duke Andreas suddenly slapped her, but the bigger problem came afterward. Not only were there guards stationed in front, but Abel was now forbidden from coming anywhere near this area.
Setting aside the fact that she could no longer sneak out at night to look for food, how was she supposed to go to the central temple to stop Rubel?
It was impossible for Eir to escape from this place alone. First of all, Eir couldn’t ride a horse.
“No matter how much I think about it, I have no choice but to convince Abel to go together.”
After worrying all night, Eir finally decided to reveal the whole truth to Abel.
She wasn’t sure if Abel would believe her, but she had no choice—Eir was backed into a corner.
“This is all because of that damned Rubel Shinote…….”
Eir gritted her teeth. If only Rubel hadn’t made the crazy decision to perform the Purity Rite, she really could have waited quietly as he had said.
Anyway, she had to acknowledge his madness. Eir rummaged through Rubel’s room and put on a long hood. It was midnight, and gentle moonlight illuminated the corridor.
As she approached the stairs, she could see guards standing a little distance apart from each other. Eir pondered how to get past these many guards and eventually looked down at her own hands.
‘I have no choice.’
She resolutely muttered to herself.
She didn’t want to use her power, but given the situation, it was all she had to rely on. Wasn’t the reason she wore this thick, long hood in the first place to appear like a ghost rather than a human?
‘I can do this.’
She was concerned that she hadn’t properly bestowed a blessing for over three years, but she hoped that her consistent daily prayers over the past few days would help somewhat. Eir carefully went down.
The torch held by a guard blazed brightly. Eir approached him quietly, suppressing her presence. Her heart felt like it would burst, but she pressed it down and tapped his shoulder lightly.
The guard, on alert, turned around and flinched at the sight of the black cloak that looked like a specter. He closed his eyes tightly in the moment of carelessness. The last thing he saw was a ghostly white hand reaching out from the black reaper-like figure…….
“May God’s blessing illuminate your life……!”
A quiet voice reciting God’s blessing……?
“Ugh.”
Before he could even feel confused, the guard collapsed sideways, overwhelmed by a powerful euphoria that penetrated from head to toe. And another guard, who only managed to shout “What!” without time to draw his sword, also fell in succession, caught in the powerful o****m of the blessing.
A total of three guards on the stairs had been dealt with using the power of blessing and God’s ability to suppress one’s presence.
Eir, catching her breath, tilted her head slightly at the blessing power that seemed stronger than before.
Was it always like this? Normally, blessings and divine power should weaken when unused for a long time, but to become like this just from some prayer? What’s happening?
It was frightening for a moment, but now was not the time to dwell on such things. Eir, using the skills she had developed while searching for food around the mansion, quickly found and put on a spare maid’s uniform. Then, after grabbing a holy book, she abruptly approached a passing maid.
“Um, excuse me!”
“Ah, you startled me! What is it!”
She seemed to be returning after finishing cleaning the bathroom, as her hands and feet were wet. Eir quickly said to her:
“The third young master asked for a holy book, and I was wondering where he might be right now?”
“Abel? Abel asked for a holy book?”
“Yes……”
After scrutinizing her up and down with suspicious eyes for a moment, the woman soon shrugged and said:
“He’s probably in the prayer room on the second floor.”
“Thank you.”
Eir carefully moved her steps, bowing her head politely.
