Chapter 169

“Ugh……”
Eir let out a low groan as she leaned her battered body against the wall.
As expected of the leader of the Alphadem witches known for their cruelty, once Eir had provoked her, she mercilessly drove Eir into a corner.
‘I was just trying to get closer by talking about my aunt, but if you like, I can act like the leader of Alphadem.’
After saying that, she approached close enough to choke Eir, looked down at her and asked.
‘Do you know why you were captured and brought here?’
When Eir gave no answer and just glared at her, Freidis laughed briefly and then suddenly erased all expression from her face.
And then a part of the shadow that had been gently caressing Eir’s shoulder suddenly stabbed her sharply.
‘Ah!’
The pain was intense enough to make her dizzy, but not enough to make her pass out. As Eir lowered her head with a groan, a large hand made of darkness rose from the floor and forcibly held her face up to make her look at Freidis.
Placing her hand on Eir’s head and briefly chanting a spell, Freidis realized that Eir had broken the second spell cast by Hecate, and her face twisted with anger.
‘At this rate, I won’t be able to learn the magic circle even if I kill you. Who taught you how to break the spell?’
‘……’
‘Right. Why am I asking? It must have been my stupid son Chrome.’
Irritated that things had gone awry, Freidis let out an agitated sigh and lowered her head. The darkness around her moved gently, patting her shoulder as if to comfort her.
Eir was entranced by this eerie yet mystical sight when she suddenly felt a gaze on her. She turned her eyes and through her disheveled hair, met Freidis’s single red eye staring intently at her.
A chilling sensation ran up her back.
At that moment, Freidis lowered her hands that had been covering her face as if she had never been secretly watching Eir, and smiled faintly.
‘Well then. I’ll just have to examine your memories to see the situation when the curse was broken, or when it was cast. Call Harpa right away.’
‘But this woman is a priestess, so examining her memories will be difficult.’
‘Priestesses are human too. The more mentally corrupted they become, the thinner the god’s protective shield will be. Continue with a suitable amount of torture. It would be perfect if we could call Lisa too.’
With that simple summation of the situation, Freidis withdrew. After she left without any lingering attachment, Eir was dragged away by the witches.
I don’t want to explain in detail what happened after that.
Eir was tied firmly to a chair with ropes, her mind was invaded, she was mocked, and torture came unexpectedly and repeatedly.
Pain that came at unpredictable moments, voices that gleefully recited her secrets while cackling near her ear.
Eir, who had been tortured, pretended to be fine to the point that even the witches who had brought her to the prison clicked their tongues in amazement, but as soon as the witches disappeared, she curled up her body with a groan.
‘This is going to be fun! I don’t think I’ve ever had as much fun as looking into your head. I thought all priestesses lived the same boring lives. This one is just as nasty and pathetic as we are!’
Recalling what the witch called Harpa, who had rifled through her memories, had said, Eir clenched her fist.
After lying there like a corpse for a while, Eir finally raised her upper body and leaned back against the wall.
‘Pull yourself together, Eir. Are you going to stay captured here forever, being toyed with in the hands of witches, giving away all your information before dying? Pull yourself together and escape tonight. The longer you stay, the more those witches will find out about you, and the harder it will be to escape. You must do it today.’
She clenched her teeth with determination, but reflexively, a cold voice from within rose up.
But how?
By what means could she escape from this heavily guarded place?
Especially when divine power didn’t work.
She tried once more to gather her divine energy, but quickly realized it was futile. Throughout the torture, darkness had penetrated into her, then withdrawn, then pushed in again, then fled with information.
Perhaps because of that experience, her body was in worse shape, and her divine power seemed to dissipate even faster than before.
‘I need to find some way…….’
She was contemplating squeezing her body between the bars when she suddenly remembered what Freidis had said to her.
