Magnus flared up angrily, as if his weakness had been struck.

“When did you ever treat me as the eldest son? You, father, and even mother—all of you treated me like a dim-witted obstacle who lucked into being born first and claimed that position!”

“So that’s why you’re doing this? What do you think will change if you kill me? You’ll just be dragged to prison for consorting with a witch, and murder.”

Rubel continued, gathering his patience while barely restraining the urge to grab Magnus and wring his neck.

When Rubel’s tongue grew unusually long, Magnus shrugged his shoulders, seemingly pleased. He thought Rubel was afraid.

“There’s no one here who will report this anyway. You’re alone, and everyone here is on my side. People will be told the opposite. That when I killed the witch you’re so madly in love with, you came for revenge and even used witchcraft passed on by your lover. Then I, along with these knights, summarily executed you.”

“That I couldn’t kill you so I borrowed a witch’s power? Who would believe that?”

“They will have to. Your corpse will turn pitch black, as if cursed by God. The end for someone who meddled with powers they shouldn’t have.”

Rubel let out a hollow laugh.

Magnus frowned at his strangely relaxed attitude despite hearing all this.

“What’s so funny?”

“I’ll do as you wish. Whatever it is. Just tell me where you’ve taken that woman.”

“You don’t seem to understand the situation! Everything is already going according to my plan.”

Magnus thrust the darkness swirling in his palm straight into the ground. The earth shook violently for a moment. Rocks fell from various places, and Magnus stepped back to avoid them.

Rubel quietly watched as monsters began rising one by one before him. They seemed to recognize only Rubel as their enemy, staring only at him.

When the situation clearly became serious, he raised his hand toward the empty air. Magnus was momentarily afraid someone might have followed them, but when nothing changed after that, he snorted.

“Die.”

After that, Rubel’s battle began. Since Magnus needed to confirm and take Rubel’s corpse, he had no choice but to watch him fight.

Though he had often seen Rubel sparring with knights in the order, this was the first time he’d seen him face monsters. Rubel dodged the hand of a house-sized monster reaching for him, using it as a foothold to leap up and behead it.

In an instant, monsters died wretchedly after just a few of his leaps. Not content with that, Rubel bounded up the mountainside, dealing with monsters while rushing toward Magnus.

Magnus, who hadn’t expected him to come so close, hastily backed away and pulled knights in front of him by grabbing their shoulders.

But the knights didn’t draw their swords, and Rubel, while cutting through a long tentacle of a monster crossing his path, reached Magnus in the blink of an eye.

Rubel created a protective barrier by releasing divine energy, then grabbed Magnus by the collar.

Magnus covered his face in fear and shouted.

“Even if I die, the monsters won’t disappear. You’ll just cause the deaths of these poor knights for nothing. And yours too, of course!”

“Either way, what reason do I have not to kill you right here?”

“That woman! You said you wanted to know where she went!”

At Magnus finally blurting out what he wanted to hear, Rubel loosened his grip.

Magnus retreated, wiping sweat from his neck. The sound of his clothes tearing in Rubel’s tight grip could be heard.

“Near the northern Yorunpel mountain range.”

“How do you know? They would have cast teleportation spells, and witches do their best to hide their shelters.”

“I’m not that stupid either. The reason I brought this person along was exactly for that. He can read locations by looking at the sky.”

Magnus hurriedly pointed to one of the knights.

When Rubel’s gaze turned there, the knight immediately knelt. His armor made a clanking sound as he moved.

“Is that true?”

“I couldn’t determine the exact location, but I’m certain it was the Yorunpel mountain range. I found plants that only grow there.”

Saying this, he reached into his pocket and handed something to Rubel.

Rubel received it, examined it calmly, and put it in his pocket. Then he suddenly raised his sword. Magnus, seeing the blade flash right before his eyes, couldn’t say anything and just squeezed his eyes shut.

But just then, a silver arrow suddenly flew in, aimed at Rubel’s sword hand. Rubel irritably avoided it and muttered in a low voice.

“I told you not to interfere…….”
