Chapter 88
The saying, “A thief who learns late stays up all night.” is a piece of wisdom from our ancestors, not a criticism of anyone. So, beware of the late-learning thief.
They’ll strip you of your wealth and even your life!
Eir, looking at herself in the mirror, strongly agreed with this saying as she examined her face. Overnight, she seemed to have aged several years. The dark circles under her eyes were pronounced.
In contrast, Rubel, who had fallen asleep holding the exhausted Eir, looked refreshed and youthful, as if he had discovered some secret to eternal youth.
“Let’s run away.”
Eir, staring at the mirror, suddenly felt like she had no choice but to flee. No, it wasn’t just a thought—it felt more like a warning blaring loudly in her mind.
Earlier, when Rubel saw her wake up, he greeted her with a smile and a kiss on her shoulder, saying, “Did you sleep well and wake up well?” His words tickled her to the core.
After a night of him sucking, fingering, and stretching her like he was cutting fabric, how could he greet her so shamelessly with such a bright face?
Eir wasn’t stunned because he was handsome, she was stunned because she couldn’t believe his audacity.
The problem was that, after days of eating and sleeping well, she hadn’t fainted and had endured for a long time. Later, she even begged him to just have s-x, but Rubel said, “We have to stretch it first.” and everything fell apart.
‘I do want to try it once, though.’
He clicked his tongue regretfully and approached her again.
At this point, Eir realized that this was what torture felt like. Only after reaching this level of exhaustion could she finally fall into a deep sleep.
And the next day.
Eir ran away.
Since Rubel had personally cleaned her body while she slept, there was no discomfort. She put on the easiest clothes to wear by herself and fled the house without a second thought.
At first, her legs felt weak as she descended the stairs, and she nearly collapsed several times, but somehow, she managed to keep walking.
Outside, the world was surprisingly the same as yesterday. The wind was strong, the sun was gentle, and people were busy working everywhere.
Yet, Eir’s world had completely changed.
As she pondered how to avoid Rubel for the day, she decided to head to the gazebo she had seen nearby not long ago.
Luckily, as soon as she arrived at the gazebo, it started to rain.
The summer rain poured down noisily, and Eir rubbed her exposed arms, unable to bear the chill.
How long do I have to stay here?
Feeling the aimlessness of someone with nothing to do, she stood there when someone rushed in, seemingly seeking shelter from the rain.
For a moment, she thought Rubel Shinote had come to catch her, but upon seeing the man’s dark blue hat, she realized it wasn’t him. She had never seen Rubel wear a hat.
‘Now that I think about it, it’s pretty absurd.’
Eir laughed hollowly, thinking about Rubel, who had been left behind.
After all, she had suddenly disappeared, claiming she was going to the bathroom. Surely, he wasn’t looking for her, was he?
Considering his usual temperament, it was more likely that he had noticed and let her go on purpose. But last night, he had seemed like a completely different person, almost half-crazed, so she couldn’t guess how he might react now.
Then, she felt the gaze of the person who had entered the gazebo to escape the rain glancing at her. Strangely, he seemed to recognize her, looking her up and down. She pretended not to notice at first but eventually met his eyes.
He slightly lifted his hat, and Eir’s eyes widened in recognition.
“What the—?”
Eir pointed at him, her mouth agape.
Chrome grinned, completely removing his hat and shaking his rain-soaked hair.
“I almost got hurt because you didn’t recognize me.”
“How are you here?”
“Did you forget the teleportation spell I taught you? After sending you off, I followed.”
He smiled slyly.
Eir’s surprised and flustered expression quickly changed, and she began to stride toward him.
Chrome thought she might grab him by the collar, but he quickly noticed the large bandage wrapped around her right hand.
However, instead of grabbing him, Eir hugged him like an old friend. Chrome awkwardly bent down to accommodate her embrace, blinking in confusion.
“Huh?”
“I’m so relieved. I was really at a loss!”
Her breath, filled with genuine relief, held no deceit. Chrome hesitated before asking.
