Is it strange?

She thought blankly.

Of course, it was strange. How could he say something like that? Did that mean she had become some kind of obligation to him?

Her, a witch? Just because she threw up and got sick?

But then, she suddenly realized something. Come to think of it, he had been sitting in that chair, taking care of her the entire time she was unconscious.

She had become his obligation a long time ago. Even his promise to the old man was about earning money, and that had started because of her.

Realizing this, her mood suddenly became very strange.

Living without family meant she had never been anyone’s obligation before. She had met many kind people and been comforted by their warmth, but those were just whims.

Whims that could be taken back at any time.

Kindness was like that.

But obligations were different. Obligations were…… she didn’t know. But to Eir, obligations meant never abandoning the other person, no matter how old, sick, or even if they became utterly detestable.

That’s why they were heavier and not easily discarded. As a child, she had desperately wanted to become someone’s burden, the kind that couldn’t be easily thrown away.

And now, suddenly, that had been fulfilled by this man.

An old, forgotten emotion surged up, and she couldn’t control her expression. She quickly lowered her gaze. But he, who had been watching her the whole time, couldn’t miss the change in her demeanor.

“Why are you like this?”

He asked.

Eir remained silent, counting the patterns on the blanket. One flower, two flowers. As she did, he suddenly reached out and pressed his hand against her forehead.

“I asked why you’re like this.”

“It’s nothing, really. I just accepted it. That I’m your responsibility.”

“Did the word ‘responsibility’ bother you?”

He asked gently, as if ready to explain at any moment.

Eir pouted.

“No.”

But he seemed to have already misunderstood her acceptance.

He explained in a troubled tone.

“But responsibilities are a good thing for me. They’re pretty much my life. People without responsibilities get bored easily and live meaningless lives.”

However, in his effort to elevate the concept of responsibility, he didn’t realize he had fallen into a logical trap. Eir didn’t miss the opportunity to dig into it.

“So, I’m your life? Without me, you’d get bored and live a meaningless life?”

Is that even possible?

Rubel chuckled softly and corrected her.

“I never said you were my responsibility. I said taking care of you while you’re sick is.”

But it turned out she was the one who had fallen into the logical trap. She realized she had made a huge mistake, thinking about obligations and all that, and her face turned red.

“It’s the same thing.”

“It’s not. You’re not a responsibility to me. Rather…….”

Rather?

She couldn’t help but focus on his words, even though she didn’t want to. Seeing her lips part slightly, Rubel whispered softly.

“……you’re a trap set by God.”

“A trap?”

“Yes. God is testing me to see if I can overcome this. Using you as the test.”

So, after apologizing for the word “responsibility,” he ended up calling her a trap?

Her?

Eir grimaced and pulled the blanket over her head. If he wasn’t teasing her, what did that even mean?

Trap, responsibility—it was all nonsense.

***

That day could have ended like that.

If Eir hadn’t woken up at dawn and seen Rubel sleeping peacefully beside her bed.

If she hadn’t remembered his words about her being a “trap.”

If she hadn’t suddenly been filled with the determination to truly become that trap.

It could have ended like any other day.

But whether it was God’s joke or not, everything aligned that dawn, and Eir was reminded of her original goal once again.

People were coming to capture Rubel, and she, accused of being a witch, might be caught too. To escape this, she needed to sleep with Rubel Shinote.

And so, in the middle of the night, she climbed on top of him.

Rubel woke up to a tickling sensation against the backdrop of the blue dawn. Still half-asleep, his hand instinctively slid up her calf, reaching her thigh.

“Hmm.”

A warm, soft female body.

The kind of body that made him want to sink deeper into sleep. It was resting on his stomach. Rubel slowly opened his eyes and saw Eir’s wavy hair, tinged with the blue of dawn. And in the midst of it, her face, waiting for him to wake up.

“What is this?”

He asked in a low, sleepy voice. Eir tilted her head slightly and stopped right in front of his nose.

“What do you mean? I’m just acting like a trap.”

With a determined expression, Eir pressed her lips against his.

Rubel, feeling the strange sensation of her moist lips against his, instinctively raised his hand.

His hand, which had grabbed her shoulder as if to push her away, ended up pulling her closer when she slipped her tongue into his mouth.

“Are you joking?”

He growled, his eyes sharp as he bit her lip.

But despite his intensity, their kiss was clumsy. Both of them moved their lips as if trying to take the lead, resulting in a mess where one would bite the lower lip while the other opened their mouth.

Feeling the frustration of not being able to fully savor her, Rubel grabbed her cheek with one hand and pulled her face closer.

Her body slid down his, and Rubel whispered in an annoyed tone to her surprised face.

“Stay still.”

Then he plunged his tongue into her open mouth. For Rubel, who had only played with her body before, this was the first proper mutual stimulation.

The sensation of their tongues intertwining and sucking on each other’s lips was incredibly stimulating.

It made him wonder why he hadn’t thought of kissing her before.

“Mmm… ah~~”

Eir let out a rough breath, trying to catch her breath. She turned her head, trying to escape his persistent lips, but she couldn’t escape the burning soul that was slowly learning how to feel good.

He grabbed the back of her neck and kissed her again, sucking and nibbling on her lips until they felt swollen.

The man who had been so meticulous when caressing her, observing her closely and changing his approach if she seemed in pain, was surprisingly rough when it came to kissing.

Eir, trying to calm him down, placed her hand on his shoulder and gently stroked it.

“Uh, um…… it hurts.”

Even as she spoke, her lower lip was being bitten and stretched. Rubel, feeling even more excited by the faint taste of blood in his mouth, lifted her body and flipped her onto the bed.

Her surprised face looked up at him blankly. Her small body squirmed on top of his firm torso, and the sensation of her thigh brushing against his bare stomach, now exposed as her clothes shifted, made him wish he could feel it again.

But more than that, her constant attempts to pull her head back were driving him crazy.

He let out an annoyed sigh and touched her lips with his hand.

“Aren’t you going to take responsibility?”

His eyes seemed to glow with the heat that enveloped his entire body.

Eir realized she had provoked him, but she couldn’t just turn tail and run now. She slowly slid her hand down his body.

Past his chest, over the firm muscles of his stomach, her hand stopped just above his waistline. She hooked a finger into his pants and pushed it inside.

The sensation of her finger touching his bare skin just below his navel sent a shiver down Rubel’s spine.

“So, does that mean it’s standing?”
