Chapter 141
Eugenie had intended to scold Napier when their lips met. Why, after calling her over, did he cut off her words and so hastily press his lips against hers first?
But her body, already accustomed to a few kisses with him, parted instinctively. As they struggled for control, their hips moved instinctively against each other.
‘No wonder Napier treats me like I’m promiscuous.’
He hadn’t said it outright, but his sulky attitude made it obvious. And yet, seeing him kiss her, it was clear that all he had for her was desire.
‘…Then let it be.’
Even her mother, who had endured everything for her father’s love, had eventually acknowledged reality.
[Perhaps between a man and a woman, there isn’t really such a thing as love.]
Recalling that letter, the irrationally stirred emotions inside her calmed.
‘Well, if it comes to this, I might as well just enjoy it.’
She didn’t want to admit it, but she didn’t dislike kissing Napier. Somehow, it felt…right.
Unlike before, however, she couldn’t focus solely on the kiss. Eugenie pulled back several times.
“Uh…wait, umph.”
Unlike when he had teased her with the shoes on the first night, their heights didn’t match now. She had to stretch on her toes even as she looped her arms around his neck.
When Eugenie struggled, Magnus irritably held her close, supporting her lower body. Suddenly, she found herself above him, looking down, panting.
“Huff…!”
In the chaos of their indulgence, neatly swept silver hair now fell across Magnus’s forehead. She couldn’t take her gaze from his pale green eyes, yet taking it away made her anxious.
This time, slower than before, she traced his lower lip with her tongue and kissed him again. Any thought she tried to form was drowned out by the movement of his tongue.
When their lips finally parted, Magnus muttered in a deep, husky voice:
“…Now you can focus, right?”
“….”
Eugenie was too breathless to answer. She’d been rendered speechless by a sudden anger.
‘Damn it. I’m not that small.’
She was average height for an Imperial woman; it was the men, Magnus included, who were unusually tall. Still, arguing the point would seem childish, so she turned her head instead.
“Don’t complain about me being heavy. Just put me down… You’d only drop me and blame me anyway.”
“Norton, you’re clumsy, your fashion sense is terrible.”
“Do you want me to hit you with a textbook too?”
“Ha, your hands are rough, and you never listen to others.”
Magnus smiled, brushing his lips along her jawline.
“You’re not so heavy I can’t hold you and kiss you at the same time.”
“Hah…uhh…”
“Haa, Norton.”
As she gently grasped his hair and he inhaled her scent, Magnus instinctively thought: maybe Eugenie Norton would understand if he spoke now.
“If I—”
But before he could finish, a second knock sounded at the door. Just the sound of knocking, yet it carried a biting sarcasm.
“Eugenie, you’re in there, right?”
Anyone could hear the teasing tone. Magnus immediately recognized it: the speaker was clearly flustered.
Startled, Eugenie jumped down from his arms.
‘Why is my face so hot?’
Even fanning herself didn’t ease the flush. It hadn’t faded when Carter appeared outside the door.
“Ah, Carter. What’s the matter?”
“…”
Carter’s icy gaze fixed on the woman. The flush under her eyes and the way he glared as if ready to kill made it easy to guess what had passed between them.
‘Ah, this is getting on my nerves.’
He tried to resist giving his heart away, but seeing his possessive behavior stirred his nerves. Not just Magnus Napier, but the others too, one by one.
Yet Carter smiled gently at her.
“Elaine Sabnac is awake.”
“Ah, now?”
“Yes. She seems to be recovering faster than expected.”
Carter took Eugenie’s hand with a smile, eager to guide her quickly out of Magnus’s presence.
“Should we go see her now?”
“Hmm, okay.”
Eugenie didn’t want to postpone urgent matters just because she got lost in the kiss. She followed Carter instantly but felt regret seeing Magnus trailing silently behind.
‘I didn’t hear what Napier was going to say…’
