Chapter 134
* * *
‘I ended up accepting it.’
I sighed after finishing the audience. Though it was a hidden quest, it wasn’t easy to express refusal to Evgenia.
Walking a bit further down the corridor, I saw Isaac waiting for me with perfect posture. Even as my guardian, he was restricted from entering when I met with Evgenia.
“Have you finished, Your Highness?”
“Ah, don’t bow! Don’t strain your waist.”
I hurriedly stopped Isaac from trying to bow to me.
“What if your wound opens up?”
“This much is fine.”
“We can’t know that. It’s only been a few days…….”
Even as I held his arm and worried, Isaac simply insisted he was fine.
Actually, this was already a battle I’d lost, so I quickly closed my mouth. Even when I told him to rest, he firmly refused, saying he couldn’t leave his guard duty vacant. It was the same even when I said there was nothing to worry about since we were in the palace.
I should hurry back to the Princess’s Palace. Though this man would probably be just as immovable there, at least he wouldn’t have to stand.
I told Isaac we should head back and walked ahead. Having memorized the path from my frequent visits to Evgenia’s palace, I could boldly walk in front.
Isaac silently followed by my side. Though we appeared to walk side by side, he stayed half a step behind, thoughtfully matching my pace.
Because of this, I found myself glancing at Isaac. Looking at him made Evgenia’s words and the quest keep circling in my mind.
‘She said she’d announce bringing in a guardian tomorrow…….’
I should tell him in advance, right? As my guardian, it probably wouldn’t be pleasant to hear such news through others.
“Isaac, I have something to tell you.”
“Please speak.”
“It looks like I’ll be getting a new guardian. When I spoke with Her Majesty Evgenia, she said she’d give me the right to choose a new guardian as my birthday gift…….”
While speaking, I realized the presence I’d expected to be beside me was gone.
I stopped walking and turned around to see Isaac standing several steps behind.
“……Isaac?”
Unlike his usual self, he seemed somehow confused. Finding this strange, I called out to him, and only then did focus return to his eyes as he looked directly at me.
“What’s wrong?”
“I apologize for concerning you. Just for a moment…….”
Isaac approached me. His face, now beside me, had returned to its usual cool expression as if it had never wavered. However, his inability to finish his sentence was quite unusual.
“Is your wound really okay? It hasn’t opened up, has it?”
“The wound is fine, please don’t worry.”
Then what is it?
Ding!
[<System> Affection with ‘Isaac Harsen’ has slightly decreased.]
Oh my! I flinched at the sudden notification sound and message window. Upon reading the content, I was silently shocked.
‘His affection decreased? Why?’
I quickly checked Isaac’s affection window.
[<Character> Isaac Harsen
―Affection: 3 / 100 (Warning)]
Huh? It’s as high as 3? Isn’t this an increase rather than a decrease? I’m sure it was ‘1’ before…….
After thinking carefully, I remembered that his affection had increased before.
‘Then it really did decrease.’
I’ve been so busy lately that I hadn’t checked how much it had increased, so I couldn’t tell how much it had decreased either.
‘Why did it decrease though?’
All I’d said to Isaac was worry about his wound and that I’d likely be getting a new guardian.
His affection wouldn’t have decreased because I asked about his wound, so the only thing left was the guardian talk…….
‘Could it be that he doesn’t like me getting a new guardian?’
I was about to speak but realized there was no need to ask and closed my mouth again.
There was no need to ask when the answer was obvious.
‘His affection must have decreased because he doesn’t like it.’
Still, I was surprised that Isaac would dislike it this much.
Though it would be awkward having a stranger come in as a new guardian, wouldn’t it be better since the workload would be shared among three people?
I couldn’t hide my strange feelings at this unexpected reaction.
