Chapter 104
“Wh, what…?”
“You said you liked me.”
Only then did Cynthia realize why he acted so much like a human. She could clearly see the emotion on his beaming face… so clearly that it sent chills down her back.
Segleninde, whose rough words and expressions now hid behind a flushed face in front of the one he loved, gently brushed the corner of her mouth with one hand and whispered,
“So you’ll have to make me like you even more. All of me. Just as I do… for you.”
From the moment he took on a human form and came to possess a human heart, he could only end up loving a human.
Cynthia realized she had misunderstood. There seemed to be no reason left for him to deceive her, and if so, those words must all be sincere. As soon as she recognized this, her face grew hot.
Once she relaxed, she finally noticed what she was wearing.
If she recalled correctly, she had never worn such luxurious silk pajamas even at the Count’s manor. She was even wearing soft, comfortable undergarments, though she didn’t know who had dressed her.
The food she ate while sitting on Segleninde’s lap was delicious, and the once-chilly room was now filled with warmth and fragrance from the tea. When she finally sipped her tea, it was a bit cool but still sweet and fragrant. The sunlight pouring through the window was also bright and pleasant.
At that moment, memories of the Count’s manor overlapped with memories of her shabby one-room apartment.
Just as ‘Cynthia Obel’ had, the Korean Shin Sia’s own circumstances weren’t all that good either. So maybe she could put off figuring out how to get home for a while and stay here a bit longer. It wouldn’t be so bad.
Above all, there was a man who had all but declared that he loved her.
“…You’re not going to let me get killed by any traps, puzzles, or creatures, right?”
“I’ve already gotten rid of all those while you were sleeping. I kept only what’s necessary to maintain the manor, but there’s nothing there that could hurt you. Now that I’ve regained all the control I lost along with my memories, there’s nothing left that could put you in danger.”
“Then, I’ll accept your proposal. I’ll stay here, help you, and also…”
Cynthia covered her flushed face with her teacup and finished her words in a small voice.
“…As for being the lady, let me think about it a little more.”
Fireworks like those at a festival exploded inside Segleninde’s mind.
If he could, he wanted to lift her up in his arms right then, walk up onto the mansion’s roof, and from there make flesh and entrails rain down across the whole country, let his kin feast on slaughter to their hearts’ content. He’d turn all the seas to blood, pull every celestial body down from the sky, and hang sparkling eyeballs to paint Cynthia’s face across the earth.
But he knew Cynthia would hate that, so he kept it to imagination only. Instead, he spoke.
“Just try lying and running away again. I really will take your legs off.”
“…No, I mean, I already told you not to talk like that last time! Is that really the way you’re supposed to treat the woman you like?”
Unable to hold back, Cynthia snapped at him, and Segleninde countered with obvious dissatisfaction.
“Then how do humans do it?”
“Well…! Ugh, whatever! Figure it out yourself!”
She stumbled over her words, not knowing what to say, but instead a smile blossomed at his lips.
“Ah, fine. Figure it out myself. You’re the one who said it, alright?”
For some reason, she felt like she’d said something she shouldn’t have, but she couldn’t take it back now. Cynthia only turned away from him and fanned her now feverish cheeks with her hand.
