And so, the fake fiancée and the fake amnesiac mastermind began their journey together in earnest.

Segleninde thought that Cynthia, too, had quite a few careless sides.

Having spent the whole day together in the dressing room, he noticed that although her tone was sharp, she was actually quite timid and tender-hearted.

Maybe because of that, he found it amusing to deliberately poke and tease her now and then, so things wouldn’t get boring.

If she clamped her sharp lips shut and refused to answer, he would get impatient and pester her, accusing her of ignoring him.

Then she would mutter and grumble in a tiny, almost crawling voice, and Segleninde enjoyed it regardless of what she was saying. It was like listening to the endless sound of a winding music box.

The stories Cynthia told him were also quite entertaining.

He would listen to her describe memories he himself didn’t remember, as if singing a song, and find himself drifting into imagination.

He was so absorbed in imagining the two of them spending time together like ordinary lovers. Laughing, sharing tender stories, sometimes whispering love. Just the sound of that made him occasionally fail to respond properly to her.

At the same time, he sometimes found himself jealous of his past self, who had experienced those moments with her. They were moments he had no memory of.

So now and then, he would pick a fight over nothing or deliberately rile her up, as if to assert his presence as her current companion, a childish display of wanting to matter.

He didn’t even need to eat, but Cynthia would share her biscuits with him, even though she didn’t have many herself. What an utterly foolish gesture.

He found it so endearing when, after watching her cute sleeping face for a while, she woke up but pretended to be asleep, curling up her body.

It all seemed so silly that he couldn’t help but laugh.

For his foolish fiancée, Segleninde decided to take matters into his own hands.

Fortunately, he hadn’t forgotten how to fight, so he slaughtered the Harvesters lurking outside in an instant.

The thought of returning to his fiancée to be praised made him smile uncontrollably.

He brought her the head of the toughest enemy among those who had dared to frighten her, presenting it like a trophy to show what a remarkable man her fiancé was.

He even swaggered a bit, but Cynthia, who had been trembling with fear just moments before, suddenly leaped up and kicked the head with her foot.

At first, he didn’t understand why she was angry.

Apparently, his way of speaking had been the problem, but when she suddenly blushed, stopped cursing, and gave him an unexpected compliment, he immediately forgot what the issue was.

“D-Damn it! Bastard! Thug! Rotten scumbag! All you have is a pretty face but your mouth belongs in a sewer! You look like some shameless womanizer…!”

Pretty. That must mean handsome.

As far as he could recall, that was surely the case.

He felt like he understood how his formerly distant fiancée saw him. Segleninde was quite pleased.

A fiancée who could curse when angry… That meant she wouldn’t lose out to anyone.

He was glad for that.

What was even better was that, after that, Cynthia started to act more at ease around him.

She cursed more often, grumbled, chattered, bickered with him, and sometimes they even had what could almost be called arguments, yet he felt completely at ease.

He liked how this delicate woman, who looked as if she’d die if he so much as grabbed her by the neck, would flare up so fiercely at the slightest thing, as if she trusted he would never hurt her.

It made him happy, as if she truly believed he would never harm her.

He was also pleased when he realized that, even while he was amnesiac, Cynthia had already known his true name—something that absolutely must not be revealed to others.

The way her delicate lips carefully pronounced his long name was a sight he liked.

She had even given him the cute nickname ‘Sellie’. At first he hadn’t liked it, but gradually he became so used to it that it started to feel like his real name.

However, he didn’t know how to act affectionate, so he only ever picked fights, which meant Cynthia would always end up blushing and raising her voice at him.

But if she felt she’d gone too far, she would mumble an apology in a tiny voice and quietly stick close to him.

Segleninde liked her that way.

He liked when she got angry, found her cursing endearing, even her timid glances were adorable.

For the first time, before and after losing his memory, he was receiving such complete trust and kindness, and he loved it.

Because it was she who gave it to him, he loved everything about it.

And when Cynthia, in this round, met her first death—

“Ah…!”

He recovered a part of his memory.
