Unlike in previous rounds, this time Cynthia did not simply escape by reaching an ordinary ending.

The original purpose of the music boxes placed throughout the mansion was for him to clean the entire mansion whenever he wanted.

Whenever the mansion was stained with the blood and flesh of sacrifices, he only had to wind up the music box to turn back time, and everything would become spotless again. Sometimes, he would expand the concept and reverse the flow of time for the entire world.

Only he and Cynthia knew how to use it, and each time she came to this place, she stored her soul in the music box, reviving every time she died.

That was why, when Cynthia first transmigrated into this world, Segleninde was able to summon her here using the music box where she had stored her soul. That became the basic means of information that engraved her fate onto this world and fixed her existence here.

In other words, the music box itself was Cynthia’s database.

But now, all of those music boxes were destroyed.

At the same time, as Cynthia met a complete death here, the link that connected her to this world disappeared.

From now on, there was no longer any possibility of her coming to this world.

Segleninde, for the sin of deceiving her, could never meet her again.

“……”

He looked at the corpse of ‘Cynthia Obel’ with a hollow expression. That face, stiff like wax, only stared into empty space.

The main hall on the first floor was silent.

All the mansion’s creatures who had hurried in, along with Melissa, the old merchant woman Clara, and even Cynthia’s personal maids, seemed to grasp the situation. Melissa sat down with a face fighting back tears, while only the Ghost Rats were making a noisy racket with their squeaks.

Segleninde picked up the last remaining trace containing Cynthia’s soul.

“….There’s still something left.”

The red jewel embedded in the teddy bear’s heart.

It was once the core of consciousness maintained by Mage Cynthia’s magic. Even though all the magic had now drained away and it was empty, inside there still remained a faint fragment of consciousness and some lingering traces of mana.

Segleninde gathered them together. Using this teddy bear as a medium, he could reach Cynthia.

But there was a problem.

He could no longer call Cynthia to this world. All the connections that had brought her here were now severed, and unless she herself wished to come to this world, it was impossible.

If Cynthia wished to return to this world, she could open the door using her consciousness and the teddy bear’s heart as the core.

But there was no way that would happen.

How much had she loathed this world? From the very first round to the last, without exception, she had always wanted to escape from here.

So, was it really right to call her back to this place?

“……”

Things he hadn’t realized when Cynthia was with him now flooded in like her final lesson left behind.

The moment he understood she was gone, never to return to his side, Segleninde was struck by a chill that filled his chest—a sense he had always dismissed as a trivial emotion.

Loneliness.

Despite having been an unblemished, impeccable being who had never known such feelings, Cynthia had left him with a wound so deep that now he even missed the pain she gave him.

He would never see Cynthia again. He wouldn’t know where or how she lived, and would have to live on for eternity, never once able to touch her.

It was horrifying. So horrifying and frightening. It was a feeling akin to what living creatures called death.

Segleninde was filled with regret. If only he had been human from the very beginning… Wouldn’t he have been able to leave her with memories of this world that were at least a little less painful?

If he hadn’t killed anyone, if he had simply withered away, unknown even to her… Would this moment hurt any less?

He didn’t know. He had no idea at all.

“Sia…. please.”

He just wanted to see her. The loneliness and emptiness, the unbearable longing to be loved. He could not endure it.

For him, eternity was far too long to spend just looking back on the things she had taught him.

Segleninde plucked the red gem that shone in the teddy bear’s chest. And in the distant beyond, he opened a passage to another world, one he did not know.
