Chapter 169
There was nothing hurting. He had no fever, and not even a single drop of cold sweat flowed from his body. But in any case, he groaned that he was ill and lay in bed, showing no sign of getting up. Even the creatures of the ducal residence, alarmed by this unprecedented situation, went to visit their bedridden master, only to click their tongues and leave.
Cynthia figured it out without much difficulty. Her husband’s diagnosis was b******t.
“You’re not sick. What are you doing?”
“No, I’m sick. Every time I see you, the muscular organ inside my ribs squeezes tight, my retinas blur, and I can’t endure it without fainting. Your red hair is like a lush bouquet, and your eyes sparkle like mist I saw in a dream, so how could I possibly stay sane? At this rate, every accessory organ in this flesh might break down. Ah. My wife, my beloved wife. I am ill.”
B******t, alright. Cynthia clicked her tongue.
She could more or less guess what he had decided after seeing the Baron and Baroness. He probably wanted the situation of ‘a wife looking fondly at her frail husband’, but unfortunately, when Cynthia saw through his act, all she could do was snort. She did not indulge him easily.
Segleninde did not stop at merely pretending to be bedridden. From that day on, he became the embodiment of a frail husband.
When Cynthia took his hand and pulled him along, asking him to go eat dessert with her, he would lift her up in his arms and walk as if flying, yet when he was alone, he could not even take three steps before collapsing with that huge body like a newborn fawn, making thin sobbing sounds.
The sword he used to swing around like a tree branch was now too burdensome to wear at his waist, so he took it off, then pitifully whined that he could not even draw it properly from its sheath. If he did not wake up in the morning in his wife’s arms, even the sunlight stung, he said, burying his face deep into her fair skin and sucking her b*****s.
Sometimes, he even pretended to fall while taking walks in the garden. Then he said he couldn’t get up. When she asked if she should carry him on her back, he pretended to tear up, lifted her onto his back instead, and said something chilling about how he was terribly frail and needed his wife’s care, so they should become one forever.
That sight was, well, how should she put it. Since he was still her husband, it was cute and lovable that he was acting like that. But still, somehow…
‘It’s shameless.’
And if he only did it when the two of them were alone, that would be one thing. But even if it was in front of non-human creatures, he did it so often that there were moments when everyone looked sick of it, so Cynthia found him a little embarrassing.
So when she left him behind, he would cry out desperately, my wife, my wife, and follow right behind her. Until she turned back to look at him.
There were exactly two beings whose faces stayed bright even after seeing that.
One was Melissa.
As the chief culprit who had turned a G-Rated genre into an R-Rated genre, she still occasionally went around acquiring strange information from humans. After observing the way Cynthia and Segleninde acted, she proudly presented items from who knew where.
A riding crop, high heels, leather cut indecently open here and there…
“Melissa? What is all this?”
“Yes, this is an ‘Accessory Set for a Queen’. And this one here is for Master. It’s an ‘Accessory Set for a Dog’!”
A muzzle, a leather collar attached to a sturdy chain, handcuffs…
Cynthia could not close her mouth at the parade of indecent items she encountered in the middle of the ducal residence corridor in broad daylight.
Behind Melissa, whose head petals were blooming wide as she said she was happy to be of help to the two of them, stood the old merchant woman Clara, another being whose expression stayed bright even in this situation. She was laughing. Clara gave her a big thumbs-up.
<Heeheehee!>
Then, with her other hand, she showed the amount Melissa had paid. Since the Duke and Duchess had such a good marital relationship, naturally, every single day was pure happiness for the ducal residence’s exclusive merchant. Melissa smiled brightly, saying that was why she had procured special goods this time.
Those goods were these. The queen and dog sets.
“Gaahh!”
Cynthia screamed, threw down the items that had somehow ended up in her hands, and fled on the spot.
Melissa’s shout that she would move the items to their room for them, and Clara’s laughter, grew distant.
