Cynthia hastily turned away from the door and retreated all the way behind the sofa.

The noise from outside was growing more intense. The Harvesters’ bizarre sounds gradually turned into screams, and the noises of something being torn and ripped changed into the wet, squelching sounds of things being crushed.

And then, silence.

“…..”

Cynthia froze. Even though she knew, in her head, that Segleninde was on her side, her body couldn’t shake off its instinctive fear. Her stiff arms and legs trembled as she backed away, and then, suddenly, the door swung open with a bang.

A giant, covered head to toe in black fluid, entered the dressing room.

Her mind went completely blank, unable to think properly. The thing left wet, sticky footprints on the floor, trailing thick, black fluid as it approached her. And then, it threw something at her.

“Ah!”

Startled, Cynthia shrank back, and something rolled to a stop in front of her. Horrified, she stared down at the pitch-black, unrecognizable lump that had rolled her way—inside it, two blood-drained eyeballs stared back at her.

Cynthia felt her mind go blank and numb. The in-game scenes of humans murdered by the villain flashed through her head in a panic.

Was she going to be next?

“Y-You k… killed…!”

“What are you doing?”

A familiar voice finally reached her.

The huge man, now right in front of her, wiped his face roughly with his hand. An expression of disgust twisted his beautiful features. With every movement, the thick black blood that had been splattered all over him fell away, until finally, his shining silver hair emerged.

It was Segleninde. The thing he’d thrown was none other than a Harvester’s head.

‘You— He could kill that thing? That wasn’t supposed to be possible. They were supposed to be unkillable!’

Cynthia, gasping for breath, forced herself to look past him, out the open door.

To prove that what she was seeing was real, the hallway outside was completely splattered with blackish blood. Here and there were the corpses of Harvesters, reduced to unrecognizable hunks of meat. Now and then, she could see bits of innards or eyeballs.

“Ugh, what a bunch of filthy things,”

he muttered, grimacing in annoyance. With a flick of his hand, the black blood that had covered him vanished, as if by magic, leaving not a single drop behind. Looking satisfied, he ran a hand through his now-clean hair and spoke, almost as if to emphasize it,

“I had no idea things like that were wandering around my mansion. Anyway, I took care of it. So what were you so worried about? You’re more foolish than you look.”

Having been trapped in a situation that would have broken any ordinary person, unable to eat properly, and now completely panicked, Cynthia snapped the moment she heard those words. Her patience finally exploded.

On impulse, she kicked the Harvester’s head lying in front of her.

“Hey!”

She didn’t care about honorifics anymore. She didn’t care if the villain glared at her—she wasn’t even afraid.

“Hey?”

“Yeah! Hey! If you can talk down to me, why can’t I? We look about the same age! Hey, you jerk, if you keep treating me like an idiot, I really might just quit all this!”

Cynthia was fuming, even pointing her finger at Segleninde. All the pent-up resentment from being stuck in the dressing room finally burst out at once.

“You! You said you wanted to get your memories back! Wanted to get your memories back! But all you do is pick fights! No matter what I say, you just give me that blank face, and even when I tell you stories, all I get is, ‘Wow, you sure remember a lot for someone who’s supposed to have forgotten’, or, ‘How do I know you’re not just making it up?’ You never actually react! And now what? I’m the foolish one? Who are you to treat me like this? Fiancé or not, I don’t care anymore!”
