Beautiful silver hair fluttered gently, his delicate eyelashes trembled slightly, and his elegant brow deeply furrowed. His wine-colored eyes, seeming about to spill over his cheeks, remained persistently fixed on her. It was quite pleasing to see.

In the meantime, Segleninde carefully lowered her to the floor.

Surprised by his rather cautious gesture, Cynthia watched as his fingertips hesitated, gently grasping only the very edge of her shirt sleeve, with the faintest pressure, as though reluctant to let her go.

After a long hesitation, his lips finally parted, whispering softly.

“…Then I just won’t. I’ll never kill you or say that I’ll kill you again. So you, too, stop saying things like that. I don’t… like it.”

Cynthia gazed at him, momentarily spellbound. He himself seemed embarrassed by his own words, his face flushed red, but he refused to back down, eyes fixed firmly upon her, demanding a proper response.

After a brief hesitation, Cynthia extended her pinky finger toward him.

“I won’t. Let’s both promise not to say anything hurtful to each other. And you have to promise to protect me, so I never die. Don’t do things I tell you not to do, either. Promise.”

Segleninde quietly stared at her slender, extended finger, and then, somewhat puzzled, hesitantly extended his own pinky finger as well. His pale finger gently entwined with hers, surprising him slightly.

Cynthia smiled, gently shaking their joined fingers. Only then did a smile spread across his face.

“…I promise. I’ll protect you so you don’t die. I won’t do things you forbid, and I won’t say hurtful things. Happy?”

It was still the same bright and beautiful smile as always. Cynthia stared at his face blankly for a moment.

“You’re awfully timid, though. Why do you worry so much? Is it because you’re weak?”

Of course, his way of speaking was as crude as ever.

Even as Cynthia thought about how his looks and words never matched, she felt more at ease, knowing he would no longer threaten her life. After all, a good-looking rice cake was even more appealing when it spoke nicely.

Meanwhile, seemingly pleased, Segleninde showed no intention of letting go of her intertwined finger.

“Still, after all the help I gave you, isn’t there some kind of reward? Hm? There’s something you should definitely say after someone helps you.”

He clearly wanted her to thank him.

Cynthia quickly realized this, yet after making that promise and seeing him now acting arrogant. It’s as if he hadn’t just been anxiously worried she might disappear.

She found herself slightly annoyed and shot him a glare. Although he had helped her clear the quest, his method wasn’t exactly pleasant.

But considering they had just reconciled somewhat, she decided to let it pass this once.

“Lower your head a bit. You’re so needlessly tall.”

When Cynthia beckoned, Segleninde wore a profoundly dignified expression and graciously lowered his shoulders. Perhaps assuming his fiancée was too shy to say “thank you,” he indulgently leaned closer, even pushing his flowing silver hair back behind his shoulders.

His eyes arrogantly urged her on, as if saying, “Go ahead,” and Cynthia brought her lips to his smooth cheek.

Chu—

A warm, soft sensation quickly touched and left his cheek.

“Satisfied?”

“……”

No answer came. Segleninde had promptly dropped to the floor.

Holding the spot where her small lips had briefly touched, he stared up blankly at her. Embarrassed by his exaggerated reaction, Cynthia’s face turned even redder than his.

Grumbling to herself that she’d done something unnecessary, she stomped her foot once, turned abruptly, and began vigorously fanning herself with her hand.
