Chapter 54
At that very moment, a large shadow loomed behind her.
When Cynthia turned around in surprise, Segleninde was right there, looming in close with a serious expression, bending his broad shoulders again. Then he stuck out the other cheek—the one she hadn’t kissed—and tapped it, demanding,
“Do it again.”
“No way!”
Cynthia shouted out loud. The smile that had been about to break out on Segleninde’s face vanished instantly. As she hurriedly tried to escape, he strode after her on his long legs, persistently asking,
“Why? What’s so embarrassing about doing it again if you already did it once?”
“It’s not embarrassing!”
“Then why not do it?”
“I don’t know!”
Her already flushed face turned even redder, like a ripe peach. Cynthia ignored his constant pestering—why won’t you, why won’t you—as he followed after her, finally taking a moment to inspect the new rest point.
A softly flickering fireplace, a bathroom, a big bed, a wooden table and two chairs. Everything was there except for a window.
Cynthia threw her exhausted body onto the bed. The plush bedding swallowed her up, gently hugging her tired muscles. She felt drowsiness coming over her almost instantly.
As soon as she collapsed onto the bed, Segleninde, who had still been following after her and asking ‘why’, finally fell silent. Looking somewhat sulky, he turned away and announced he was going to take a bath, then stepped into the bathroom.
Regardless, Cynthia, exhausted to her core, fell asleep before he even came out.

Zzzzz…
“Well, look at that. Sleeping so soundly.”
After finishing his bath, Segleninde looked at her, sprawled out on the bed, snoring peacefully, as if dumbfounded. She didn’t even realize her loose trousers had ridden up to her calves.
She slept like there wasn’t a single care in the world, and he couldn’t help but let out a disbelieving chuckle.
With a wave of his hand, the lights in the room went out, and the bathroom door, from which steam still drifted, closed.
The water dripping from his long silver hair dried instantly, thanks to magic, and then Segleninde walked to the bed and sat down at her bedside.
Her wavy red hair was spread carelessly over the white sheets. Her face, eyelids firmly closed, was so clear. Like a vision that would scatter if touched, like an illusion shaped from mist, just looking at her made him feel drowsy, too.
“She tells me not to kill her, and then leaves herself completely defenseless.”
Like a naive and willful human.
Grumbling, Segleninde pinched Cynthia’s nose. Even in her sleep, she frowned and made a whining noise as if to say she hated it. He gave a quiet laugh, let go of her nose, and gently stroked the spot with his fingertip, where a red mark was left.
Then, her relaxed brow brought a gentle calm to her sleeping face.
Segleninde rather liked that. Letting his fingers glide from her nose down to her lips, he touched the spot where she had pressed her lips to his cheek earlier. As if it tickled, she pursed her lips and mumbled in her sleep.
“……”
Segleninde touched his own lips with the same finger that had touched hers. The sensation was similar.
At first, he hadn’t understood why living beings had these parts on their faces, but now he was starting to get it.
Being with her, he was gradually realizing that this piece of flesh so neatly set in the face, and the gap between them, could serve so many different purposes.
Is this how Cynthia had used it?
Segleninde tilted his head.
Even in the darkness, his silver hair shone like gentle waves, draping over Cynthia’s neck and head. His lips brushed her round cheek. The skin was so soft, it seemed like if he tried to swallow it in one bite, it would slip down without even a trace.
