Chapter 9.13
When she was in Korea, public safety wasn’t so dangerous that serial killers could roam freely. If someone strange carrying a sword or a kitchen knife was seen walking around, they would be reported immediately. Besides, unlike America, people couldn’t possess guns, so there were quite a few people jogging on bright streets with streetlights at night.
“But here it’s different… Because he’s a former knight, Tom Baker carries a sword. Moreover, because he wears guard attire, people rather feel reassured and approach him. Not knowing the future where they will be killed instantly…”
Resena stared at the diary for a long time. Come to think of it, she had heard that recent murder sprees had calmed down and couldn’t spread further, thanks to the security personnel’s support from the Arnasus family. Resena turned the pages of the diary with a worried sigh.
Flipping through the pages, she could reach the page where the names of people killed at the winter ball were written. This time, it was a commoner-born knight named McClae, who was like a close friend of the male lead who had reached the rank of senior knight.
“There were so many people killed by Jergard and Tom Baker. In terms of making the male lead lose his close knights, Tom Baker is overwhelmingly dominant…”
Zergard prioritizes the demon king’s advent, so he is a figure that must be watched. Although Sernaus said there was no need to worry about catching Zergard, that was only if this daily life continued to be maintained.
Above all, it was premised on Eldis returning safely from Lemordus. Though she didn’t think he would succumb to illusions, Resena had been losing sleep every night since his departure due to the messenger bird that had been cut off after he entered the holy land.
‘Just in case… you never know.’
And she was tormented by the thought that she herself had driven Eldis into danger. When commanding the delegation, she had planned operations with maximum efficiency while taking care that no one got hurt, but the holy land Lemordus was a place with almost no records. She couldn’t sleep even lying in bed, feeling as though she had driven him to a dangerous place based solely on the legend that those who surpass their limits there would change and overcome their weaknesses.
“Lord Sernaus. Please watch over Eldis so he doesn’t die.”
Resena prayed with her hands clasped together. Knowing that Sernaus was watching over her, she could be certain that her prayers would reach him. And that manifested as a strong faith in Sernaus.
And she had no doubt that such faith would become the strength for Eldis to overcome his trials. According to Sernaus, the reason gods intervene in human affairs is because they are worshipped by humans, so she believed that he, as the god of light and guardian of warriors, would surely intervene after hearing her prayer.
“Eldis…”
Believing the words that dangerous experiences would change him and that imperfect advice would become the power to prevent him from driving the world to ruin, Resena prayed all night.
Come to think of it, it’s already been ten days.
After telling her that he would accompany Eldis on his expedition, Vernas had not shown up at the canal dock.
Since he would be one of the people Eldis could trust and rely on at the holy land, Resena sometimes felt a tightness in a corner of her heart when thinking of Vernas.
But strangely, she wasn’t worried about Vernas. It was because she had an intuition that he could overcome any situation capably.
“Sigh…”
The night was already passing, and dawn was approaching.
Resena swept up her hair and lay down completely on the bed. She thought of both Vernas and Eldis. Strangely, Vernas’s face didn’t come to mind clearly, but the movement of his fingers remained in her vivid memory.
“I believe in you, Vernas.”
That you will become Eldis’s strength.
And she had no doubt that he would accept what she had said and give Eldis appropriate advice according to the situation.
“I believe…”
Tossing and turning while thinking of the two, Resena finally fell asleep just before morning.
As the moon faded and the sparkling sun rose above the horizon.
Through the slightly open window, the mixed scents of roses and hydrangeas flowed in.

“…Miss?”
Del, who came to see Resena, realized she was sound asleep and sighed with relief.
After learning that her daughter hadn’t been getting proper sleep for the past ten days, the Duchess had told Resena not to get up in the morning but to wake up in the afternoon to work.
“……”
Thanks to that, Resena was sleeping soundly. To avoid waking the young lady, Del carefully walked to change only the water in the vase on the dressing table and put the flowers back in.
This white flower that the young lady had brought one day was exceptionally white, as if indicating it was created with magic. Moreover, it contained a subtle light, so the maids who came and went in this room would curiously glance at the flower once or twice.
‘The young lady seems to have changed a lot.’
Since she first entered this house and was assigned as a maid to serve Resena, the young lady had never once used abusive language or raised a hand against her.
