“What? The wizard, Isaac, is missing!”

The king of Osbloom Kingdom, who had relied solely on the wizard to incite the rebellion, was plunged into shock. The archmage was Osbloom’s greatest and most critical asset.

As a result, when Herix set foot on the battlefield of Osbloom, the kingdom’s knights there were left leaderless.

Inside the military barracks, a single chair lay abandoned. Herix looked up at the solid beams of the barracks with his indifferent, cold violet eyes. A rope hung from one of the beams. It was a tragically sufficient explanation for the grim outcome.

The next day, as Herix returned to the capital, his thoughts were consumed by one thing: the promise he had made to Ivonne before leaving.

At that time, Herix had listened to Ivonne’s many conditions with a gentle expression, nodding in agreement, but he had set one condition of his own:

— I hope… Ivonne doesn’t leave.

To which Ivonne had responded:

— Of course, I won’t leave. Where would I go?

She had assured him firmly that she would never leave. Herix had believed that promise as if his life depended on it.

— I am happy here. I won’t go anywhere. So, Rix should… come back here.

His heart was full. The thought that the one returning was himself, not Ivonne. The reality that when he returned, Ivonne would be there waiting. He was overwhelmed with deep sadness and profound joy, to the point of being choked up with happiness.

Thus, Herix kept his promise to her meticulously. He hadn’t even sent anyone to the Tens Mansion. How could he ever doubt Ivonne? He could only believe that they would both honor their promises, trusting Ivonne’s words completely.

Ah, to keep each other’s promises fully. What could be better than this? Thanks to that, he was filled with excitement as he returned to the capital.

‘Ivonne, I’m back. How does that sound? No, it doesn’t really convey the feeling of returning. Did she read the morning newspaper? Does Ivonne know that I’m coming back? Maybe… is she waiting for me? Could she be lingering in front of the entrance? Perhaps she’s even looking out from outside the Tens Mansion.’

Just imagining it made his heart race so wildly that he struggled to breathe. His cheeks flushed red, unable to control his body. The towering man murmured with a boy’s heart.

“How about… I’m home?”

Would she welcome him with open arms?

His entire body was drenched in a joy that surpassed mere happiness. But the reality Herix faced was far from this euphoria.

“…”

The Tens Mansion was cold and empty.

“Ivonne?”

The empty Tens Mansion showed no signs of life, as if he had come back to a house that had been abandoned for a long time.

At first, he was shocked. Then he was bewildered, and later, he refused to believe it. Finally, despair set in.

“Why…?”

The situation wasn’t unfolding as expected. Faced with an unbelievable reality, he found himself too busy denying it. But even that had its limits, and he had to reluctantly accept the truth.

Ivonne had left.

She had broken her promise.

Despite saying she would never go anywhere, she had vanished without a word.

There were no traces to track with magic.

He tried calling, but there was no answer.

The person he had been chatting with just yesterday, smiling and talking, had disappeared completely.

Ivonne had abandoned Rix.

Rix had been cast aside by Ivonne.

When Herix realized all of this, he cried a little.

He didn’t feel the pain from his knees, which had hit the floor hard as he collapsed. There was no warmth in the tears flowing down his cheeks. His entire body felt limp. He had no strength, as if all his life force had been drained, leaving him unable to even move a finger.

Thus, after turning the Tens Mansion into a mess, Rix knelt in front of the sofa where Ivonne usually spent her time and groaned.

“Ivonne, ah, Ivonne, ahh, ugh, Ivonne… Ivonne…”

A pale, ashen face was smeared carelessly across the sofa. The weeping eyes had become swollen. The sharp seams of the sofa’s leather scratched at the tender skin around his eyes. The sound of flesh being torn was clear, but the searing pain that consumed his entire body made him lose focus.

“Ah, ah, Ivonne, ah, ugh, Ivon-ne.”

His sobs grew ragged. Rix could no longer contain the rising sorrow and lifted his head. Transparent tears squeezed from his closed eyes turned red as they passed over the wounds scratched by the leather.

He wept blood.

His furrowed black eyebrows looked painful just to see.

It was clear how much agony he was in, how disoriented he was from the pain tearing through his emotions. His hand, clutching his chest, had its tendons taut, and blood oozed from the scratches on his skin through his torn shirt. The blood-stained fingertips traced up his chest.

When his palm reached his collarbone, he choked himself.
