“Just wait a little longer.”

He didn’t apologize. Despite deep regret, he didn’t feel any genuine remorse.

In fact, he even thought it had worked out well. The god, Novnie, might have limits in her power, but now that Aiden had shattered the orb and become a being slightly higher than Novnie, things were different.

What Aiden came to realize was this,

‘I’ll make Novnie human.’

It sent a chill down his spine. Just imagining it made a thrill of satisfaction surge through him, as though cold shivers ran down his body. The roles would reverse. Aiden would become the god, and the world would bow to him, while Novnie would become human, a mere mortal.

‘Novnie in my hands.’

That would be the true way to possess Novnie.

In an instant, Aiden teleported to a place with Novnie, where a body lay. It was a young girl, just twelve years old, who had been killed by a robber. Judging by her appearance, the girl seemed to have considerable magical talent.

‘At that age, with that level of magical ability, she would be a suitable vessel to hold the soul of a god.’

Everything was falling into Aiden’s favor. He thought of this as proof that he had indeed become a god.

“Here, this will be your new body.”

“A new body? Wait, Aiden. You can’t be serious.”

Aiden thrust the girl’s body toward Novnie.

As soon as she realized his intentions, Novnie was struck with horror. Though she did not fear returning to nature, she was terrified of losing her power.

Specifically, she feared the fight with the coming chaos and the reunion with the fox who had once whispered love to her— the fox she had truly loved and trusted, only to be betrayed.

Unaware of the thoughts Novnie was having, Aiden was in a hurry. He had to give her a body before he lost more of her. This was his chance to possess more of Novnie.

“No. This can’t be, it’s irreversible. That child is human. If I enter her body, I’ll…!”

Novnie tried to crawl away, but her wrist had already begun to dissolve. The cross-section of her disappeared wrist was bruised a deep red, as if it had been scraped many times against cold, hard shackles. Her waist and thighs, gouged like they had been bitten by something, failed to support her trembling body. She couldn’t escape.

“Aiden, my words—”

“Let’s meet again.”

Just as Novnie had interrupted him earlier, Aiden cut her off. He smiled brightly, his green eyes now darkened from absorbing her power and was gleaming ominously.

It was a continuous shock. In fact, it was only natural that Novnie had not anticipated this. She had no desires, so she couldn’t even fathom the kind of thinking that stems from desire.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be here.”

Aiden whispered, pulling the now warm child—as Novnie’s soul settled in.

“My Novnie.”

He murmured in a tone that seemed almost ecstatically satisfied.

The child, who had just begun to have their heartbeat again, kept their eyes closed, and so Novnie couldn’t see Aiden’s expression. However, from the slight tremor in his voice, she assumed he must have been crying.

He had taught her that much. But once again, Novnie’s assumption was wrong. He was smiling.

‘My little Novnie, Novnie in my arms.’

Why would he cry? He had finally grasped what he had longed for. Aiden thought that time could stop right there, and he would be content.

But the desire that humans possess is endless. Desire stretches its branches and vines without rest, and it never knows satisfaction.

‘I want to see you smile again. I want to talk with you. Living together wouldn’t be so bad either. This time, I’ll be the god, and Novnie will be human.’

There were countless thoughts that would make Novnie, if she knew them, would feel disgusted.

Of course, this was none of Aiden’s concern. Whether Novnie liked it or not, she was his now. Even in the face of the godly manipulation of fate, humans go on, grumbling as they live. Now Novnie, too, would have to live as a human, receiving Aiden’s violent affection.

But did they say the sum of happiness and misery is the same?

As happy as he had become, it was now time for Aiden to experience misery.

…Crack, crack, snap!

Just as when Aiden had placed his hands on Novnie’s body earlier, a repulsion started to build. The mild sting that had been barely noticeable quickly escalated into a massive attack.

Unable to hold on, Aiden let go of Novnie.

Boom―!

The explosion of air between Aiden and the girl rang loudly.

“Ugh!”

Once again, Aiden staggered backward and squinted with one eye.

But since this was the second time, he wasn’t as flustered as before. Aiden quickly checked the motionless young girl that was now lying on the ground. Even though Novnie had inhabited her, the girl lay completely still, like a puppet with its strings cut.

“Why… is there resistance…?”

Aiden mumbled dazedly.

‘Resistance only happens when opposing forces are similar, right? Even if the forces are opposing, shouldn’t one side be overwhelmed and consumed if it’s significantly stronger?’
