Meanwhile, Blitzen was still running ahead.

“Young master, wait! The governess and maid are no longer in sight.”

“It doesn’t matter!”

“No, young master. The Count gave specific orders for you to stay with the governess and maid.”

“It’s fine. They’ll be around here somewhere! I have to go.”

“Where exactly do you need to go…?”

The knight hurried after Blitzen, his long legs quickly catching up to the boy. He occasionally shook his head, as if he couldn’t understand what Blitzen was doing.

But Blitzen paid him no mind as he headed deeper into an alley, moving toward a more secluded, complicated part of town, a damp place where no sounds of people could be heard.

“Young master, I think you’ve taken the wrong path. This is a dark back alley. I don’t know what you’re looking for, but I don’t believe you’ll find it here…”

The knight, trying to persuade Blitzen, stopped mid-sentence and immediately drew his sword. As a sword mage, simply unsheathing his blade was enough to strike or overpower his opponent with ease.

Boom!

The knight, despite his immense skill, was sent flying in a single blow and slammed into the wall.

“Ugh…”

He felt an immense pressure on his body.

“Hubalt!”

Blitzen, startled, called out to the knight, but he was in no position to answer.

Creek… creak…

The knight was being pushed deeper into the alley, with more force applied to him even after the initial blow.

“Gah!”

The knight let out a strained grunt.

Thud! Thud! Boom!

The sounds of the alley’s walls and buildings breaking apart gradually faded.

“Hubalt! Hubalt!”

Blitzen felt his legs weakening and collapsed onto the ground. He called out repeatedly, but there was no response from the man who had been sent flying down the alley.

“W-What’s going on…?”

Unable to muster the strength to stand, Blitzen’s eyes filled with helpless tears, his body trembling. He felt like he might lose control of his bladder. And then, it came.

“You’d better run.”

A chilling voice came from behind. It was the same voice that had been controlling Blitzen’s thoughts all morning, the one that had guided him to this place. Blitzen wanted to turn around, but he couldn’t summon the courage.

“You’re scared.”

A calm, youthful voice. But to Blitzen, it now sounded like the voice of a demon king. His lips trembled, unable to speak. Then, the world seemed to shake violently.

“I said, run!”

The boy shouted. Without thinking, Blitzen jumped to his feet. His legs, which had felt weak just moments ago, now felt sturdy and strong.

“Run that way.”

Without even looking back, Blitzen started running toward the alley the boy had pointed out in his mind.

‘I feel like my body is being controlled by something…!’

How long had he been running?

His breath was coming in ragged gasps, his lungs about to burst, and his sides felt as though they were tearing apart. He desperately wished for someone to stop him. He searched, over and over again, for the God Novnie.

And then, a girl appeared before Blitzen’s eyes.

The girl, with striking pink hair, stood still, blinking her green eyes. At that moment, Blitzen saw her as a God. He cried out in desperation.

“P-please, help me!”

Surprisingly, the girl knew exactly what Blitzen was asking for.

“Yes!”

She reached out her hand, and in that instant, she stopped Blitzen’s endless run.

“Ugh.”

Due to inertia, Blitzen tumbled forward, scraping his knee, but it didn’t matter. His running had finally stopped.

“Are you okay?”

When the girl’s hand touched his shoulder, the pain in his side and the tightness in his chest suddenly eased.

“Uh, uh… yeah…”

Blitzen answered in a daze, amazed by the sensation. The girl smiled brightly.

“That’s good!”

And so, Blitzen and Ivonne’s first meeting was completed.

That day, Ivonne accompanied Blitzen to Count Ulfest’ residence.

Count Ulfest, after hearing the story that a young girl, who had lost her parents, had protected Blitzen—someone who even the governess, maid, and knight couldn’t protect—couldn’t believe it.

But seeing Blitzen’s lively appearance after so long, he decided to overlook it. The knight had been severely injured, but miraculously, he survived. The maid and governess lost their jobs.

That night, Blitzen had a dream.

— You must love.

— You must love.

Someone whispered strange words in the night. Blitzen groaned in distress, but no one was there to wake him, as the governess had been dismissed.

Blitzen ran desperately through the pitch-black darkness. But no matter how fast he ran, the exit never appeared. The darkness, when examined closely, seemed as though it was drawn with black pencil, rough and jagged. No, it almost felt like swarming centipedes crawling inside it.

— Only the power.

— The power that will make you the Count.

The whispering voice never stopped. His head felt like it was about to explode. Watching the squirming darkness made his body itch, especially his back. It felt as though his hair was caught in the seams of his clothes.

Yet, Blitzen did not slow down. He felt that if he stopped, the eyes following behind him would devour him.
