Chapter 28
The pleasure intensified with each wave of contemplation. Stars burst before her eyes with every thrust of Edin’s hips. Gasping for breath, she thrashed her head against the almost painful kiss, yet when he attempted to release her lips, she’d nip at his lower lip, refusing to let him go.
‘If things were going to be this way,’ she thought, ‘perhaps it wouldn’t be so bad if Edin became hers, even if the heroine ended up with one of the other male leads.’
How could she ever find another man so lovely, so magnificent, so perfectly suited to her tastes? The heroine had him in the original story; surely, in this life, she could have him just this once. In truth, Lysei loved Edin. Loved him enough to abandon her plans of sampling each of the male leads before gracefully exiting the palace.
Loved him enough to believe that with him, she could be happier than in her original life, enough to disregard the original storyline entirely. Edin was utterly captivating.

“It’s too late to kill her within the palace walls.” The Empress’s knight, Seiren, addressed Raz. Raz tapped a finger against her propped-up chin. “Is that so?”
“Yes. The Emperor has already dispatched his shadows. Even the most skilled assassin would find it difficult.”
Raz gritted her teeth at Seiren’s words. “Then what do you suggest?”
It was with Seiren’s help that Raz had expelled or executed every Nyxna who entered the palace. While she waited for the day Edin would embrace her, she loathed and despised those women who possessed him under the guise of treating his insomnia. Only during Edin’s rut cycle, in accordance with the late Empress’s will, was she permitted to spend the night with him.
She had waited a considerable time, but she could wait even longer if necessary. Troublesome women could be eliminated; unnecessary ones could be banished from the palace. Ultimately, she was the mistress of this empire, Edin’s one and only.
That’s what she believed, until a completely unexpected variable appeared: a woman who, despite being summoned and threatened, hadn’t flinched, meeting Raz’s fury with utter disdain. It was likely only possible because of the Emperor’s protection.
She couldn’t kill her. So how could she remove this thorn in her side? Raz felt a burning rage churn within her.
“She’s nothing but a lowly Nyxna. No matter how much affection His Majesty bestows upon her, once Your Majesty spends his rut with him, he will surely only have eyes for you.”
“…!”
“And the Nyxna will be discarded, having served her purpose.”
“….”
“Once she’s discarded, then, Your Majesty, I will take the head of the Nyxna who dared to defy you.”
A slow smile spread across Raz’s face at Seiren’s words. As always, Seiren was the most trustworthy person in the palace. Their long-standing bond, forged when Seiren became her personal knight in their youth and continued as they entered the palace together, always brought her comfort and peace.
“His Majesty’s rut cycle…”
“I’ve bribed the physician in anticipation of him attempting to suppress it with medication.”
“You have?! You finally bribed that stubborn old man?!”
This was welcome news indeed. Repeated attempts to bribe the Emperor’s personal physician, who controlled Edin’s rut cycle with medication, had failed, preventing Raz from consummating their marriage. The Emperor, who resented her father, refused to touch her, while she, from the moment she first saw him, desired him, body and soul.
“Yes. If persuasion fails, he has agreed to replace the rut-suppressing medicine with a harmless tonic.”
At Seiren’s words, Raz’s face bloomed with a radiant smile.
Finally.
Finally, the day she could hold the Emperor in her arms was coming.
And finally,
She would become the true Empress of this empire.
