Chapter 37
Raz, though not exactly kind, sighed in relief at Edin’s touch, his hand kneading her br*st.
‘I’ll finally have the prince,’ she thought.
But the relief was short-lived. Anticipating his hand to travel lower, she tensed, only to be met with bewilderment as Edin sat up.
Edin, his face a mask of confusion, gestured towards his lower body. “But what can I do? It’s not… cooperating.”
Raz felt a humiliation unlike any she had ever known. Edin’s casual dismissal felt like the sky crashing down around her.
The aphr0disiac-laced candles, her most potent pheromones, all her careful preparations—useless. Even with him in rut, Edin remained unaffected. Raz wanted to weep.
If he didn’t become ar0used, the rut she’d waited for would be wasted.
‘An alpha in rut is like a beast in heat,’ she’d learned. Raz rose and faced him. “Allow me.”
Edin’s brows furrowed at the overpowering scent of her pheromones. He glared at Raz, but resigned himself to letting her try, assuming she would eventually give up.
With clumsy movements, Raz guided him down and climbed on top of him, slipping her hand inside his open shirt to grasp him.
At the sudden contact, he swelled in her hand. Raz, flushed, brought her lips to him.
S*x itself was new to her, but she knew the theory. Countless books had taught her the mechanics, and while this was her first time, she was confident.
She’d read that an alpha in rut was far more sensitive, their lvst amplified. The challenge was starting, but once initiated, they became sl4ves to their desires, losing all reason.
‘So I just have to start.’
Raz pressed her lips to his surprisingly large length. As the tip touched her soft lips, Edin involuntarily shuddered.
Just as she’d read, Raz extended her tongue, licking the slit at the crown. Edin, watching her with a cold gaze, chewed on his lower lip.
Even though the mere touch of her disgusted him, the sight of her servicing him triggered an instinctive reaction. Desire and reason warred within him.
“Mmm… mm… haah…”
His ar0usal, slowly building, deflated instantly at her soft moans.
Edin briefly wondered if he was impotent. His entire being was heightened by the rut, yet he remained unresponsive even to her ministrations. It had to be a problem.
But in a way, he was relieved. If he couldn’t perform, he couldn’t be expected to proceed.
“Stop.” Edin pulled away.
“Your Majesty…!” Raz, wiping him quickly with a damp cloth, watched anxiously as he adjusted his clothes. “Just a little longer…!”
“It’s not going to work just because you keep sucking on it.”
“Your Majesty!”
“Let’s just say I’m… impotent… with the Empress.”
“Your Majesty!!”
“Someone!”
Edin yelled, and a servant immediately opened the door. Raz, startled, covered herself with the sheets.
The servant, hit with the combined force of their pheromones, winced and bowed low. “You called, Your Majesty?”
“Escort the Empress back to her quarters!”
“Your Majesty!!” Raz cried out in alarm, but Edin, without hesitation, turned towards the door.
Before he could reach it, Raz, still wrapped in the sheets, caught his arm. “You can’t do this! You must honor the late Empress’s will!”
Edin shook her off. “What do you expect me to do when it doesn’t work?”
“But we must remain together during the rut!”
Edin stared at her, his eyes cold, then sighed and gestured for the servant to leave.
Once alone, he leaned in close to Raz’s face. She closed her eyes, anticipating a kiss. Instead, he whispered, low enough for only her to hear, “You want me to spend my entire rut trapped in this room with you when I’m not even remotely arovsed?”
Raz’s eyes flew open.
“Are you trying to kill me, Empress?”
“I’m going to the Rose Palace.” Edin strode out, his pace quickening. Trey, stationed by the door, trailed after him, bewildered by the sudden change of plans.
‘The suppressants worked,’ Edin thought. ‘Even Raz’s… efforts… couldn’t fully ar0use me.’
‘Perhaps I should have used the desire-dampening potion from the beginning instead of the rut extenders. Then there wouldn’t even be an attempt at… intercourse.’
‘Of course, the rut makes the outcome uncertain. If we had started, I would have lost control, and that would have been a disaster. But this way, if it simply doesn’t work, I have a convenient excuse.’ He considered himself fortunate.
