“Achoo!”

After finishing my meal and heading toward my room, I couldn’t hold back the cough that burst out. Then, as I absentmindedly turned my head, a bright full moon was hanging outside the large window that filled the second-floor corridor wall.

Clouds drifted by quickly. The north definitely had severe temperature changes between day and night, and it looked like it would be hard for someone weak to endure.

That day we went to the Red Village, the weather had been nice, but the wind was harsh. It might have been because I had only thrown a robe over an indoor dress, but it was also true that just that brief outing had left me feeling feverish and shivering all night. I had boasted about becoming healthy, but this body was still weak after all.

Although Chase didn’t praise me, after purifying the Red Village, I was able to move around the Grand Duke’s castle relatively freely. There was also another big gain. Since that day, the knights had been treating me with great respect. The people here were kinder to me than I had imagined. To the point that, even after Michael was dealt with, I felt like I wanted to settle down and live in the north.

Anyway, I made it through today as well! Praising myself, I clasped my hands together as I looked at the moon rising outside the window.

To be honest, this might be a bit dangerous to say, but… please. Hurry. Mana storm, happen. Just from that one purification last time, I gained this much favor, so if I purify a mana storm before people get caught up in it, Chase won’t be able to make me leave anymore. In fact, recently, he’s been quiet.

So please! Hurry!

Even if praying to the full moon didn’t mean anything, I was that desperate.

Just then…

Thud.
The sound of footsteps rang out, and a familiar voice pierced my ears.

“What are you doing?”

I whipped my head around, and Chase was standing there. For a moment, I even forgot to greet him and instead watched him cautiously. This situation, where he had been quiet all along and suddenly came to find me in the evening, I had definitely experienced it not long ago. It was surely a sign that he was going to tell me to go back again.

Back then it hadn’t been the corridor but my room, and it hadn’t been Chase but Logan. And back then too, it had been right after my arm had healed. The arm I injured when I fell down the stairs had, as of this morning, finally returned to how it was back then after removing the brace.

A bad feeling crept in.

“W-what is it?”

I slowly stepped backward.
There wasn’t really anywhere to run, so I was thinking of dashing into my room.

“I have something to say.”

“Yes?”

His cold gaze followed down to my feet.

Please, just let me make it to my room. It’s not like he’d break the door, right? If I lock it and say we should talk tomorrow, I might be able to buy some time. After that… I can think about it then.

As I kept backing away, Chase’s brows lifted slightly.

“I said I have something to say. Can’t you hear me?”

“I can hear you. Go ahead.”

But Chase’s expression wasn’t normal.

“Just in case I’ll say this, but if you’re going to tell me to leave…”

“Then what?”

Damn it! I knew it. He’s going to tell me to go back again!

“Then I won’t talk to you. I don’t want to.”

“This again.”

At that moment, Chase began walking toward me at a fast pace.

Crazy! At this moment, not Michael but that man was the grim reaper of my death.

“Aaah! No! I’m not going! You left me alone all this time, so why are you suddenly doing this now!?”

I hurriedly turned around and ran toward my room. Then I flung the door open, rushed inside, and tried to close it.

“…?”

It wouldn’t close. I gritted my teeth and pushed again, but the door didn’t budge. Only then did I lift my head and grasp the situation. Chase, clearly irritated, was holding the door with one hand while looking down at me.

“What are you?”

What do you mean, what are you?

“I-I’m a person.”

Flustered, I gave a nonsensical answer and let go of the door in a daze. Chase casually nudged the door open with the tip of his foot. I had no choice but to step back.

“Don’t get on my nerves.”

What nerves did I even touch to this extent? I hadn’t done anything.

But faced with that fierce gaze, I shrank down and nodded.

“Yes.”

Thinking about it, ML is really just a stereotypical noble type. Not really valuing lives unless useful in a way their narrow mind accepts. He seems to care about his people under his rule, Noblesse Obliges. Since she's technically a tool from the outside his uncaring behavior makes sense. I just don't want such a pos as a ML.
