Chapter 60
The subordinate explained the experiment Michael had conducted. Starting with pulling out the tongue so the victim could not scream, then slowly draining all the blood from the body, stripping off skin, or driving dozens of needles into the eyes while the person was still alive.
It was filled with acts far too cruel to be considered mere experiments for the purpose of injecting mana.
“He was fifteen at the time.”
“Fifteen?”
“Yes.”
A bastard doing something that horrific at fifteen?
“Was the experiment a success?”
“No. It wasn’t successful at the time, and judging by the fact that his relatives died one after another afterward, it seems he never succeeded. There were rumors that his relatives were used in his experiments.”
So that’s why he wants Nita. Unable to abandon his obsession with the experiment even now, he intends to inject mana into Nita’s body.
I see. From that lunatic’s perspective, Nita would undoubtedly be an interesting test subject. After all, she possesses the unique ability to purify mana within her body.
“He’s completely insane.”
The subordinate nodded as if in agreement and continued the rest of the report. Starting from his background as the son of a Viscount, to his personal details, to the process by which public interest in him faded after he was expelled from the Mage Tower. He relayed everything he had found in detail.
It was not a small amount of information, but for Chase, who was intelligent, understanding and absorbing it all was no problem. The only thing that bothered him was that it was all information about the past.
“Where is he now?”
“That… we don’t know at all. Since it was an incident within the Mage Tower, more information than expected had been concealed, and after that, his trail was completely cut off. This is a summary of what I reported.”
The subordinate held out a document envelope. Chase folded it in half and tucked it inside his jacket.
“He’s alive, I assume. If he is, he would have left traces somewhere.”
“I’ll look into it further.”
“Don’t just look into it. Find him.”
Though his tone was calm, the chill in Chase’s eyes made the subordinate quietly nod.
“Yes. Understood.”
Having concluded their conversation, the two turned back toward the flower shop along the street glittering with lights. The owner, beaming, handed the enormous bouquet to Chase.
“Thank you! Please come again!”
One hundred blue roses. Around them were clusters of baby’s breath and eucalyptus.
A large glass jar of candy in one arm, and an enormous bouquet in the other.
He was someone who always held only a sword in his hands, so today’s appearance was particularly unfamiliar. Seeing this unfamiliar side of him, the subordinate blinked a few times before carefully speaking.
“Your Grace, did you bring a horse?”
“So?”
“How will you hold the reins?”
“…Ah.”
He hadn’t thought of that.
“I’ll carry one of those for you.”
Chase nodded without hesitation and said to the subordinate who held out his hand.
“Alright then. Take care of the horse.”
“…Pardon?”
“Take it back to the town house.”
“…”
It was unexpected. Naturally, he thought he would be asked to carry either the candy or the bouquet. Was he planning not to take the horse? What kind of item was it that he wouldn’t let go of it even like that?
While the subordinate stood there puzzled, Chase used teleportation and disappeared.

Anthony and I were in the middle of a bit of an argument.
“No matter how I look at it, you seem drunk.”
“I’m not. I’m really not drunk.”
“People who are drunk always say that.”
Haah. This is really driving me crazy. It’s true that my body feels a bit warm, but I swear I’m not drunk. If I were more capable, I would have done a tumble right here.
A tumble… But somehow, I feel like I could do it right now?
“Sir Anthony. This is juice.”
“Yes. But wine with alcohol content was mixed in. You’re drunk. Please go up to your room. I’ll have your meal brought to you as well. And I think it would be best if you handed me that bottle.”
“But Logan gave this to me as a gift. And you don’t get drunk from just juice. Right, Logan?”
As Anthony tried to take the blue juice bottle, I hugged it tightly and looked at Logan.
“…Logan?”
But what is this? Logan isn’t here. Where did he go? As I grew flustered, Anthony led me toward the lobby.
“No, I’m really not drunk.”
“Yes. Be careful.”
Anthony looked anxious that I might fall, but since I wasn’t actually drunk, I walked just fine. At that moment, the mansion door opened. As we were about to step onto the central staircase, we naturally turned back.
It was Chase. Anthony quickly showed proper courtesy.
“You have returned, Your Grace.”
As I looked at Chase, who had entered along with the night air through the front door, my eyes widened.
Goodness. What is that? He’s holding an enormous bouquet. Before I could even ask what kind of flowers they were, he looked at us with an even more puzzled expression and asked,
“What’s with that state of yours?”
