It expanded so rapidly that his thighs tensed and his whole body flushed with heat. His breathing quickened to the point that even his consciousness wavered slightly. Flustered, Killian snapped at Rachel in a sharp tone.

“You—what did you just do?”

“Yes? I was just turning back because Your Majesty called me.”

“This is absurd…”

It really was a completely absurd, sudden arousal. There was no clear reason other than some external factor.

Killian tried to suppress his ragged breathing as he continued to observe Rachel, who was still looking back at him. Her cheeks were tinged with a soft pink, and a look of confusion was written all over her face. She truly seemed unaware.

‘If it’s not because of this woman… then is it the medicine again? It’s been two days with nothing, so why now?’

The intensity of his arousal was similar to what he had felt during the banquet two days ago. The way irritation was creeping in, unlike usual, also mirrored that day.

He had never felt like this from the previous medicine, so he had assumed the new one reacted differently each time. The irritation must be a side effect of that.

But even if that were true—being with this woman right now, with their bodies in contact, and getting so hard that she could clearly notice it—that shouldn’t be happening.

Killian decided it could no longer be brushed off as a coincidence. He resolved to look into the cause once he returned, and he spurred the horse forward with a kick to its side.

Silence fell over the forest, now occupied only by the two of them.

With the quiet came the heightened sound of their heartbeats. The body heat flowing between their pressed-together forms became all the more provocative. Killian, wanting to conceal his condition as much as possible, quickly dismounted the horse.

“Take my hand and come down.”

He extended his hand. Just like when she’d mounted earlier, Rachel took Killian’s hand.

The tightly held hand was hot. As soon as both of them were on the ground, the heat between them made it feel like something had to happen. Rachel set her feet down and stared at Killian.

She wondered if he might go so far as to kiss her. But instead, he let go of her hand and grabbed the horse’s reins. He tied them to the nearest tree, not sparing Rachel a single glance.

His demeanor was utterly cold, and yet the sound of his breathing in the still forest rang with intensity. Rachel stared at his chest, rising and falling with each breath.
