Chapter 114
The familiar voice, the touch of his hands, and the desperate way he looked at her made it impossible not to recognize him.
“Your Grace?”
“My lady!”
Anna, who had been standing behind Lucas, couldn’t contain herself and called out. She had watched Leila open her eyes and observed her actions that indicated she could see. Anna had secretly hoped that the antidote Lucas brought, the holy water, would also restore Leila’s sight.
“Anna?”
Hearing her voice, which shouldn’t have been audible here, Leila tried to sit up. Lucas placed a hand on her chest and said,
“Do you know how long it’s been since you woke up? Don’t be so hasty.”
“I’m sorry, my lady. I couldn’t hold back. But I’ll come over, so please don’t get up.”
Anna scurried over to the bedside, standing next to Lucas.
Although Lucas could be impatient with others, he was more tolerant with Anna, perhaps because she had shown as much earnest hope for Leila’s recovery as he did.
“Am I really seeing properly?”
Leila asked, unable to believe it even as she saw with her own eyes.
Lucas smiled gently and replied,
“Of course. You can see well. You can see my handsome face clearly, right?”
She stared blankly at Lucas’s face, which was close to hers, and then blushed. She had heard rumors about his good looks, but seeing him with her own eyes had a different impact.
“Are you blushing because you’re looking at my face? Or is there still something wrong?”
Lucas teased in a playful tone. Leila couldn’t bring herself to say that his face seemed to shine with light, making her feel embarrassed. Nor did she want to lie and make Lucas and Anna worry, so she kept her mouth shut.
Lucas’s lips curled into a smile at her reaction. His appearance had never been something he found pleasant, but knowing that Leila liked it made him feel good.
“Thank you for coming back safely,” he said, genuinely grateful that she hadn’t given up on life.
Leaning down, Lucas gently kissed her forehead. It was a reverent kiss, devoid of any s-xual undertones, like worshiping something sacred.
Warmth spread from her chest to her entire body. Leila felt that the reason she was able to come back to life was because of the people gathered here.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and whispered,
“Thank you for not giving up on me.”
She felt both sorry and grateful as she remembered how foolishly she had misunderstood him and left the ducal house.
“Excuse me, but let’s continue this touching reunion after a check-up,” the doctor interjected naturally and began examining Leila.
After a thorough examination, he smiled with satisfaction.
“The holy water has worked wonders. Your Ladyship’s energy has improved, and there are no other issues.”
Lucas looked pleased, and Anna had a look of joy on her face. Unlike them, Leila’s expression twisted as she heard a word she thought she shouldn’t have.
“Holy water?”
“Yes, to save you, His Grace persuaded the Pope to give it to him. So, please think kindly of our master,” Oliver, who was standing behind, chimed in naturally.
He sincerely wished for his master and mistress to be happy together for a long time.
Emma, standing next to him, added,
“Did you know, Madam? Our Master’s first love is you.”
“You all seem very excited.”
” Madam?”
Lucas scowled at the butler and head maid’s teasing words, and Leila, surprised by being called ‘madam,’ managed to sit up.
Lucas, who had been about to help her lie back down, ended up hugging her tightly when she leaned into him.
The heartfelt reunion was met with applause, as if everyone was blessing their joyous moment.
