Chapter 18
From Lilith’s perspective, it felt somewhat unfair.
The reason she had fallen so deeply asleep during the day, and why she had habitually ended up sucking on whatever finger she found, was entirely because Teia had used her as a heat suppressant at night.
Having been helplessly dragged along by Teia’s lead, Lilith had by now learned quite well where and how to lick and suck to earn his praise.
She had been trained so thoroughly that now, at the mere sight of Teia’s e***t c**k, her mouth would water instinctively.
Thus, the scolding that she lacked dignity felt a little unjust to Lilith. It was all Teia’s fault she had learned such things!
Still, if she wanted to continue being fed, housed, and even provided with those strangely pleasurable stimulations, she had no choice but to treat her Master’s word as law to avoid being thrown out of this comfortable nest.
Teia smiled only after hearing Lilith’s tearful, mumbled reply.
His large hand cupped her tear-drenched face.
His body temperature was always higher than that of a human, and her cheeks, damp with tears, felt even hotter and softer.
As he gently wiped the reddened corners of her eyes with his fingertips, Lilith, without even realizing it, nuzzled her face against his palm.
It was an unconscious, reflexive gesture.
“This is a good opportunity to make things clear. Cesar, the items?”
Cesar, who had been doubting his ears at the bizarre conversation, carefully set down the items he had brought onto the table at Teia’s command.
Taking a seat on the sofa placed at the center of the office, Teia pointed to the opposite side with a tilt of his chin.
Lilith scampered over and perched herself on the sofa across from him.
Just moments ago, she had been crying as if the world were ending, but now she was gazing at the table with wide, curious eyes. At her simple and transparent reaction, Teia let out a faint chuckle.
“To put it simply, from now on, you’ll be officially hired as the caretaker of the pet rabbit.”
“…Me?”
“Yes.
We’ll say you were hired because the rabbit is a rare species and needs special care.
No other attendants or servants will be allowed near the rabbit hutch, so the chances of your identity being exposed will decrease.”
“I can just stay as a rabbit!”
“If you were an ordinary rabbit, I wouldn’t have spared you.
Want me to start treating you like a normal rabbit even now?”
If the rabbit he found at the illegal information guild hadn’t been the same one he encountered at the engagement ceremony — if there hadn’t been that lingering sense of suspicion — Teia would have killed the rabbit on the spot without hesitation.
Hearing Lilith stupidly insist she could continue living as a rabbit made Teia’s voice turn slightly harsh.
Lilith, face falling, quickly shook her head.
She couldn’t die!
Everyone who had ever known her secret identity had tried to use her somehow, so Teia’s reaction wasn’t surprising.
It was just that, having always met with verbal abuse and violence in the end, she lacked confidence.
“From now on, you must obey me without revealing your identity.
Even if your identity is discovered, you must never disclose that I knew about it.
It will be made to seem as if you deceived me and approached me under false pretenses.”
Knowing about a werebeast chimera and pretending ignorance would make one an accomplice, treated no differently from the chimera itself.
If it ever came to light that Teia had knowingly hidden her, it would be hard for him to escape consequences, even as the emperor’s bloodline and the Grand Duke of the principality.
Even the Imperial Crown Prince was currently on edge, worried that Teia might discover the rabbit’s true identity and somehow entangle him with it.
Thus, for Teia to push through with this dangerous contract, he needed a matching safeguard. In case things went wrong, even if Lilith were caught, he needed an emergency exit allowing him to escape unscathed.
Teia laid out his plans to save himself without even trying to conceal them.
Lilith, her head full of question marks, tilted her head in confusion.
Something felt wrong, but…
