Chapter 21
“This kind of long, frilly skirt—I’ve never worn one before! I mean, um, I haven’t worn one, sir…”
Lilith wholeheartedly agreed that she had a long way to go. In fact, she was far more comfortable as a rabbit. Because originally—she was a rabbit!
Her previous masters had intensely disliked her taking human form except when absolutely necessary for missions. It was easier to restrain her when she was a rabbit, and especially with chimeras, people felt a deep, visceral disgust at them mimicking humans.
“Before we do any basic training, I need to know your condition more precisely.”
After tightly securing the rabbit cage with the special cloth, Teia sat in a chair. Lilith, who was about to sit on the sofa, noticed his sharp gaze and quickly approached the desk where he was seated. Following a tilt of his head, she hesitantly sat on the floor in front of his chair.
With her hands folded neatly on her lap, she looked up at him. A satisfied smile appeared on his face.
“Where did you live before you were discovered by humans?”
“In the rabbit village in the forest!”
“There were other chimeras besides you?”
“No. The others were just rabbits. I was a rabbit too!”
Exactly how black mages created chimera werebeasts wasn’t well known, but the prevailing theory was that they combined humans with animals.
“So it seems the rabbit’s consciousness survived in you?”
Her expression was one of complete innocence—she truly didn’t seem to understand what he was saying. Seeing her pure, clueless face, Teia reached out and stroked her hair. As he gently ran his fingers through it, she relaxed, a pleased look on her face.
“At times like this, you seem more like a cat than a rabbit.”
“Hmm?”
“Never mind. Then, were you the only one who could become human?”
“Yeah. But honestly, I don’t really remember. I definitely was a rabbit when I lived with the others. But one day, I just woke up, and I was human.”
“Who was with you then? The first time you became human.”
Lilith, who had been speaking smoothly, fell silent. It wasn’t that she was trying to hide anything—she just didn’t know how to explain it. A troubled expression furrowed her brow.
“Was it the owner before last? Or the one before that…? That guy was really shocked when I woke up.”
She recalled the day she first became human. Her memory was hazy, but she remembered the man recoiling and screaming the moment their eyes met. At the time, she’d also been so bewildered by her human body that she hadn’t paid him much attention.
The unidentified man had locked her in a cage and observed her warily. Only after she shifted between rabbit and human form several times did he finally touch her—with violence that didn’t even compare to Teia’s.
Lilith’s shoulders trembled slightly at the unpleasant memory she preferred to forget. The hand stroking her hair slid down to her cheek and under her chin. The gentle, ticklish caress was cooler than a rabbit’s warmth but still comforting. Lilith blinked drowsily.
As she leaned into him, craving more petting, Teia obliged—stroking her thoroughly in every way, extracting every last detail of her past that she remembered. Though there wasn’t enough to identify a specific person, he pieced together a general idea of how she ended up in the information guild.
In short: she was captured by humans by chance, one of whom happened to be a slave trader. Upon discovering she was a chimera werebeast rather than a mere rabbit, the trader sold her through secret channels to those in need. Naturally, those buyers were all illegal groups—unlicensed information guilds or low-level crime syndicates.
“I already killed your last guild master, so that can’t be helped. But this means there may still be people out there who know about you.”
The scale had expanded from the duchy to the entire empire, but even so, it was worth investigating.
Teia extracted every detail from Lilith’s memory, intending to later have Caesar track them down. She scraped together a rough image of their appearances.
“What about your family? Were they normal rabbits too?”
“Yeah. There were only rabbits in the rabbit village.”
If everything Lilith said was true, then it was reasonable to assume that she, an ordinary rabbit, had been captured by someone and turned into a chimera. That would also explain her fragmented memories.
While Teia was briefly lost in thought, a drowsy Lilith rested her chin on his knee, then turned her head to lean her cheek against it. The hard muscles made it an uncomfortable surface, yet strangely pleasant. Blinking her drooping eyes, she rubbed her face against him.
“Sleepy? Even though you lazed around all day?”
“Wellll… I met the head attendant… and then…”
Lilith’s muttering trailed off more and more. Her eyes, half-closed while leaning against his knee, finally shut all the way. Not long after, her shadow suddenly shrank down.
“You’ve been sleeping like a log lately.”
The clothes she had been wearing crumpled to the floor. In the middle of the mess of wrinkled garments, a small rabbit lay sound asleep. Her warmth still lingered on Teia’s knee where she had been rubbing.
“Mmh…”
As if reacting to her lingering warmth, the lower part of his body throbbed. Feeling the heavy presence between his legs, Teia looked down and tapped the sleeping rabbit’s body with the tip of his shoe in a teasing manner. The rabbit frowned and whimpered but didn’t wake.
“Putting her to sleep now isn’t a bad idea if I want her awake at night.”
Either way, come nightfall, whether she liked it or not, it was her fate to be on his bed, sucking his c**k until her jaw gave out. With that in mind, Teia quietly lifted the sleeping rabbit and placed her on the cushion inside the hutch. His palms were filled with the ticklish softness of her fur.
