Chapter 207
She didn’t want to see those around her suffer just because they had an unfortunate friend.
“So don’t shake your hands like that. I won’t die.”
The doctor paused her treatment and gently wrapped Macy’s trembling hand with her own. Unlike the usual servants, this woman’s pity for Macy was unmistakable.
Macy had often received help from people who pitied her like this—just as Molly, a maid at Yannick’s mansion, had helped her, and just as Dia, Morgan, and Philip in the cabin gradually grew fond of her.
So whenever she saw this female doctor unsettled, Macy instinctively thought she might be someone who could help her.
That was why Macy clung to her, repeatedly asking for help.
“Dia is safe, right? I know she originally worked at Duchy Krygen’s estate. Please, just tell me she’s safe.”
“There’s a maid named Anna Rose among Baron Shearton’s maids. Please, just tell me she’s safe. And Kieran, one of the painters at the Baron’s outing, and Hils, who runs a flower shop at Leden Market… just tell me my friends are safe…”
“Please, let me out of here. Save me. That monster will hurt my friends. I have to go out…”
Despite her desperate pleas, she received not a single word in response.
At some point, Macy gave up. She no longer cared even when the doctor drew her blood or touched her body.
The doctor, looking somewhat troubled, finally spoke again.
“Have you eaten recently? Do you feel any indigestion?”
“I haven’t been eating well lately…”
“Any nausea or dizziness? Any chest pain or bleeding?”
“I’m not really in my right mind these days, so I’m not sure. Sometimes when I’m with him, I think I bleed, but the maids always clean it up by the next day. The nausea has been constant… Aside from these wounds, is there anything else wrong with my body?”
The unusually long string of questions felt ominous. The doctor’s questions stirred up Macy’s anxiety.
“Ah… no. I just thought your energy was very low and wanted to prescribe something to help restore your strength.”
She simply seemed to feel sorry for Macy.
“If there’s any particular food you crave, I can tell the kitchen to prepare it. Even something small, please let me know. You need to eat to regain your strength.”
Come to think of it, Macy couldn’t even remember the last time she had eaten.
With her situation, she had no appetite for anything and often vomited whatever she forced down.
She didn’t exactly want to muster strength, but if things continued like this, Eren might think she was resisting him.
Since her condition would all be reported to him, Macy spoke cautiously.
“Then… could I ask for a peach? I can’t think of anything else in particular.”
Strangely, she craved something sweet and sour. A peach seemed like something she might be able to eat a little of.
“Understood. I’ll bring one right away. Please wait a moment.”
“Yes.”
The doctor’s complexion brightened a little. For Macy, talking to someone other than Eren after such a long time seemed to ease the tightness in her chest.
As the doctor prepared to leave with her medical bag, she hesitated for a moment, then pulled something from her pocket and handed it over.
“What’s this?”
The doctor whispered quietly, finger pressed to her lips as if sharing a secret.
“Burn it immediately after checking.”
Then she left, and Macy examined the tiny piece of parchment, barely half a finger’s length.
Her eyes widened slightly.
< I am safe. I’ll come to get you soon. Hold on. >
It was a note from Dia to Macy.

Anna did not believe at all about Duke Krygen’s claim that Macy had set the fire. If Macy had really run away, she would have come to Anna secretly.
Macy, who was forced to become the Duke’s mistress, looked tormented. Anna assumed that Macy had fought with the Duke over that issue and that he had locked her somewhere.
‘I should have tried to stop her from the start…’
Anna regretted waiting for Macy to tell her when the time was right.
Baron Shearton had promised Anna he would find out Macy’s whereabouts but instead evaded the question with vague answers.
