Chapter 50
Logan looked startled, but he didn’t stop her. In truth, he was already used to Anne Agnes’s strange words and behavior. That was part of what he liked about her as well.
Anne’s mind was currently overloaded. She couldn’t think properly while looking at that face. She began pacing around the drawing room like a lost bee. The angel and devil living inside her were clutching their stomachs and laughing together, asking what she was going to do now.
After circling the room several times, Anne glanced sideways at Logan. His tense profile looked like someone awaiting judgment. Anne screamed internally. The male lead, the prince, Logan, liked her. And not just that, he had even cried while begging her to accept him.
Even as she let out a hollow laugh at the absurdity, the corners of her mouth lifted on their own. Honestly, she was happy. She remembered the first time she had seen Logan. The bright, fresh smile of a sparkling boy. Of course, back then he had only looked like a child to her. And that day had ended terribly. The engagement ceremony had been the same. While Anne had been slightly excited, Logan had burst into loud tears.
After that, as she watched him grow, it would be a lie to say her heart had never fluttered. The boy had quickly become a man. There had been many times when her heart raced at small, meaningless kindnesses from him.
And most of all, that night hadn’t meant nothing to Anne. The disappointment she had felt when he kept saying that they should break up. The sense of fulfillment she had felt as she accepted him when he came at her again and again.
Rather than having no feelings, it had been closer to deliberately turning away from emotions that were about to run out of control. There had been no possibility of it becoming mutual, and she had been afraid she alone might become sincere, so she had coldly told herself it was only s*x.
In the end, she had ruined everything herself and given up even dreaming about it, but honestly, there couldn’t be a better development than this. It almost felt frightening, how favorable this situation was for her.
Let’s just pretend to be fooled and try it once. Just once.
Having made up her mind, Anne walked toward Logan, her heart pounding. He looked up at her as she stood close and swallowed hard. Just as nervous, Anne forced out words she didn’t even have the courage for.
“I think… I might like you too. No, maybe just a little?”
Logan suddenly wrapped his arms around her waist. Caught off guard and finding his head pressed against her, Anne let out a bizarre scream.
“Eek…!”
Logan buried his face against her chest and only lifted his eyes in dissatisfaction. Even as his face flushed with happiness, this was something he felt needed to be pointed out.
“Can you do something about that scream?”
“Don’t startle me like that, it’s dangerous!”
Anne snapped. The sudden surprise had nearly made her yeet him across the drawing room.
Without a word, Logan pulled her waist closer. After experiencing it several times, it really did seem dangerous. Still, he had no intention of letting go.
Warmth came through his cheek. He could hear the fast beating of her heart. Was it only beating this quickly because she was startled. Or was there another reason. In a subdued voice, Logan said,
“I’ll do better. So don’t throw me away.”
“When did I throw you away…”
Anne replied with mild reproach. Seeing him cling to her like this gave her a strange feeling. More than her habitual guilt, the thought that she wanted to make him happy felt stronger. Perhaps that was what it truly meant to take responsibility.
For a moment, Marilyn’s face flickered through her mind. Logan wasn’t the only one she had disrupted. She had believed breaking the engagement was the only way to make both leads happy…
Anne shook her head quickly from side to side. She couldn’t solve everything at once. One thing at a time. One thing at a time.
As if he would never let go, Logan pressed himself deeper into her embrace. Anne wrapped her arms tightly around his head.
