Chapter 51
V.
It didn’t take long to change the queen’s mind. Considering that Anne’s reputation had already fallen through the floor and even earned her additional resentment, it should have been quite difficult. But surprisingly, it was resolved quickly without much effort.
Leaving Anne dressed neatly in a white gown, Logan fussed over her in a fluster.
“Isn’t it too tight? Are you breathing okay? And the decorations look too heavy.”
“I’m fine, so please stop.”
Anne shot him a glare. Behind Logan’s shoulder, the seamstress and her assistants were smiling silently. Did he have no sense of embarrassment? From the moment the dress was fitted until today, the wedding day, he had been this excessive the entire time.
Aside from the embarrassment, she could understand it. Until just last month, Anne had barely eaten and spent every day lying in bed.
Anne placed one hand over her stomach. It still didn’t feel real. That there was a new life inside her.
Logan immediately covered the back of her hand with his.
“What is it, is the baby already kicking?”
“That’s still a long way off.”
Anne snapped, lifting the corner of her eyes. She herself didn’t know much about pregnancy, but Logan was far worse. In truth, it was less a lack of knowledge and more that he was so excited his mind was short-circuiting.
The halved prince had gotten his fiancée pregnant. It had happened after spending just one night together, an almost perfect hit. His capacity might be half of others, but his performance more than made up for it, a result befitting his excessive prowess.
Because of the staged scandal Anne had caused, there had been unnecessary suspicions. But since she hadn’t actually committed any infidelity, Anne had nothing to be ashamed of. And with Logan himself openly acknowledging it, there was nothing left to argue about.
As a result, the royal wedding was held as soon as Anne Agnes’s morning sickness subsided. They had to hurry to calm the prince’s impatience.
Anne poked Logan’s side when he still wouldn’t leave.
“You should go now. We’ll see each other inside anyway.”
“How do you feel?”
“I’m fine.”
Even though she answered readily, Logan still couldn’t relax. Since his confession that day, he had turned completely soft, and now it seemed he had fully shifted his character. Or perhaps it was more accurate to say he had returned to his original one.
In any case, Anne just wanted to get this over with quickly and rest. Instead of urging him with words, she pointed at the closed door.
Reluctantly, Logan walked toward it. Anne waved her hand carelessly. Only then did he step outside. When the door closed, the seamstress spoke.
“You two really are close.”
Instead of answering, Anne gave a dry smile. Honestly, wasn’t this a bit too much?
It was time to finish the preparations. The assistants brought the veil. As they attached it to the tiara given by the queen, someone knocked on the door outside. All her family had already visited. The seamstress tilted her head.
“Who could it be?”
A maid opened the door slightly. Pink hair was visible through the gap. The first to recognize the visitor was Anne.
“Marilyn…!”
At her call, an assistant stepped aside. But Marilyn only gave an awkward smile and hesitated at the doorway. Anne quickly beckoned.
“Come in, come in.”
“Sorry, you must be busy.”
“It’s fine. Come in quickly.”
Marilyn quietly stepped into the room. The assistant quickly closed the door. Marilyn approached Anne, who was seated, with hesitant steps.
It wasn’t the first time they had met since that day. Just like before, the four of them, including Diane and Violet, had gathered for tea. They had all been together when Anne announced her wedding, and her pregnancy. Marilyn had congratulated her without showing any sign of discomfort.
Still, Anne couldn’t help feeling a slight awkwardness. But was it really right for her to bring up that matter first? Before she could gather the courage, today had arrived.
The maids and assistants stepped back to give them space. Marilyn approached and said with a smile,
“Congratulations, Anne.”
“Thank you, Marilyn…”
Anne gave a faint smile. Marilyn didn’t say anything further.
Anne lowered her eyes, feeling heavy. She truly wished for Marilyn’s happiness. But she couldn’t shake the feeling that she herself was the biggest obstacle standing in the way of it.
Marilyn asked quietly,
“Anne, do you love the prince?”
