“Alright. I have no idea why, but there is an easy way.”

Alnazir replied, turning toward the sound of approaching footsteps and stretching out his arm. Feeling uneasy, Fay quickly grabbed his arm.

“What… what are you trying to do?”

“If I kill them, we won’t get caught.”

“No! You can’t kill anyone! Please, Alnazir. You can do whatever you want with me, just please, don’t.”

She pleaded with teary eyes—he absolutely must not attack anyone. To Alnazir, it didn’t make sense why killing would be such a problem, but the way she promised he could do anything he wanted was tempting.

“Promise me. If you swear that you’ll let me have you again whenever I want, then I’ll leave that human alone and just draw the curtains instead.”

What a wicked smile he had. Fay could tell by the sly curve of his lips that she’d regret accepting such a deal. But with Zynie already so close, she had no choice but to nod in agreement.

“Alright. I promise.”

The moment she finished speaking, his tentacle shot out. Just as Zynie turned the corner, the tentacle managed to pull the curtains shut in the nick of time. Zynie reached the window and let out a disappointed sigh.

“Looks like she’s not here.”

Maybe she had gone out early in the morning. Zynie made a note to come back later and climbed onto her broom.

Once the presence outside disappeared, Fay finally relaxed a little, relieved that their secret hadn’t been discovered. But for Alnazir, this was only the beginning.

* * *

Now that Virelda was searching for her, Fay knew she needed to clear up any misunderstandings before things got worse… but she had no chance to get out.

“I can’t… I’m at my limit, physically…”

Completely exhausted, Fay lay sprawled on the bed, her lips barely able to move. After awakening to desire, the man beside her had spent a week turning her into little more than a gasping mess.

“That’s why we’re taking a break.”

He replied nonchalantly, absentmindedly rubbing her arm and waist as they lay side by side.

But hearing ‘a break’ made Fay’s head spin. It was obvious he only meant a short rest before he started tormenting her again.

She glared at the beast lying next to her. Even when she did, she wasn’t really scared anymore—or maybe she was, but now it was his endless appetite that truly terrified her.

“Why? You enjoyed it, didn’t you?”

He grinned, having gotten very used to his human form and now quite expressive.

Fay sighed. If she had even a bit of strength left, she would have pinched his annoying lips, but she could only muster a bitter complaint.

“If you keep this up, my heart really will give out.”

“There you go exaggerating again.”

“Exaggerating?”

“I know you’re not actually that weak. You said the same thing yesterday, but you didn’t burst.”

Alnazir leaned over and pressed a kiss to her forehead, his hand already wandering down between her legs.

Sensing danger, Fay used the last of her strength to roll off the bed and tumble to the floor.

“Ugh…”

She hadn’t meant to be so dramatic, but it hurt more than she expected. As tears welled up, Alnazir sat at the edge of the bed, looking at her like she was pathetic.

“Anyone would have heart failure if you treated them like that! I bet your own heart’s getting strained, too!”

It was embarrassing, and a bit unfair. Fay panted angrily.

“I don’t have a heart.”

What kind of nonsense was that?

Fay stared at him in disbelief.

“Want me to show you?”

With that, Alnazir pressed his hand to his chest and shoved it right in. Blood spilled out from the torn skin.

“Wait, don’t—!”

Horrified by the sight of blood, Fay rushed to pull his hand away from his chest. In her flustered state, her posture collapsed and she ended up with her face pressed against his chest.

She could feel the blood against her cheek, but—strangely—there was no heartbeat at all.

Impossible!

Panicking, she pressed her hand to his chest, listening hard. No matter how focused she became, or even when she pressed her ear to his skin, there was not a sound.

“This can’t be… It must be somewhere else, right?”

“Nope.”

He calmly wiped the blood from her cheek, as if this wasn’t even a secret worth keeping.

He was an octopus, but didn’t even have three hearts—he didn’t have one at all. Could it be…?

With a very serious look, Fay swallowed nervously and whispered,

“Alnazir… are you… actually a jellyfish?”
