Alnazir smiled, thinking he’d offered her a romantic, ruler-like generosity.

But Fay had already come to see him as frightening. His eyes, meant to look at her lovingly, now glittered ominously. His gentle smiles seemed twisted, hiding ulterior motives.

“W-what do you want in return, Lord Alnazir?”

“In return? Hahaha. Afraid I’ll demand too high a price?”

Though she was nearly right, he took it as a joke. What he wanted, in his mind, was trivial and small. To stay here, to talk with her whenever he wished, to share her body. That was all.

“Just keep being yourself.”

Isn’t that almost asking for nothing? Amazed at his own tolerance and generosity, Alnazir stroked Fay’s hip.

“If… if s*x is your goal… couldn’t it be any witch? It doesn’t have to be me…”

“Maybe.”

The crushing disappointment that flooded Fay’s face was unmistakable and he found it delightful, grinning broadly.

“But you’re so pretty when you beg. You sway those hips so sweetly, how could I not play favorites?”

“? I—I’ve never done that.”

Swaying hips? She kept them still as a statue. Fay’s eyes widened as she shook her head.

Every surprised, bewildered reaction only stoked the fire in Alnazir’s chest. Claiming she’d never been pretty while acting like this, it was practically cheating.

He spread her legs wider and thrust deeper inside, a tentacle joining the assault inside.

“Ah—my butt—ngh—not—at the same time—ahh…!”

“See? Even now, crying so prettily.”

“Ngh—hah—nngh—”

Her lower body being relentlessly assaulted, Fay thought she might die. Gasping, she grabbed his arm, shaking it to beg for a pause—but he ignored her.

“Fay.”

He called her name slowly while quickening his rhythm below.

“As your familiar, I’ll spoil you plenty from now on.”

“Hah—ngh—ah!”

She’s really going to die like this. The pounding deep inside seemed to echo through her spine to her skull. The world spun. Dizzy, she called his name, and instead of answering, he only thrust harder.

At some point, consciousness slipped away. When she came to, it was morning. It was safe to say she’d barely slept.

Fortunately, despite having plenty of his own work backed up, Bilter chose to help Fay first.

“You’re planning to put this inside your house?”

He looked slightly horrified at the enormous bath—big enough to fit fifty people at once. It was going to be a much bigger project than he’d expected. Muttering that he’d need to carefully calculate how much material it would take, he began sketching detailed plans on paper.

Fay stood beside him like someone who had committed a crime. She was ready to help with whatever was needed—cutting wood, hauling stone—anything.

Meanwhile, the one who had caused the whole situation, Alnazir, sat comfortably in a chair, watching them at ease.

Billter glanced at him, lounging there like a supervisor, then asked Fay,

“That man really your invoked? Not human?”

In forty years of carpentry in Aldehallow, he had seen all sorts of beasts under witches’ command. But Alnazir looked human in every way.

“Probably…”

Fay gave a small shrug. She had already been asked that question hundreds of times. Each time, she explained that he only looked human. Yet as days passed, even she found herself wondering whether ‘invoked’ was truly the right word for him. Perhaps he was something else entirely.

“I’m joking. I’m not doubting you.”

He patted her shoulder and said he wasn’t like those suspicious fools. Fay managed a faint smile, but even that looked drained of life.

She used to be brighter. Maybe not as lively as Zynie, but still cheerful. Billter watched her with quiet concern.

Since the Emperor’s head had been severed, most witches had been energized, believing they finally had a chance to survive.

Yet Fay alone seemed to grow thinner by the day.

He didn’t need to ask why.

Billter shot Alnazir a glare. The man looked perfectly healthy, sunbathing as if he hadn’t a care in the world.

“Is that bastard giving you trouble?”

He didn’t bother lowering his voice, knowing the man wouldn’t understand. Only Fay startled, eyes widening before she forced an awkward smile.

“No, he’s not.”

“What do you mean ‘no’? Anyone can see what’s going on.”

Billter clicked his tongue.

“A man who lets his wife grow thin after marriage is trash. A real man fattens his wife up good and healthy!”

Snorting proudly, he pictured his own well-fed, round-cheeked wife.
