Chapter 29
Sylvia woke up late the next afternoon.
As expected, her husband wasn’t by her side, and the bedroom was steeped in silence. Even after confirming he was gone, she looked around the room three times.
Foolishly, she still held some hope of seeing him after their first night together.
They say that in a harmonious marriage, sometimes the husband washes the sleeping wife, prepares food, or postpones plans to wait for her to wake.
But of course, none of that applied to them.
Knowing this yet still hoping, Sylvia clicked her tongue in frustration.
‘What was I expecting?’
Though he hadn’t been gentle, their night together felt passionate enough that she believed he held some affection for her. At least she thought there was some fondness.
Later, when his memories returned, it would be beneficial if he liked her now—even slightly—to ensure he wouldn’t harm their unborn child. It wasn’t that she desired this herself, but for the sake of the baby to come, she resolved to make him like her.
Raising her tired arm, Sylvia gently touched her belly. A sharp pain radiated deep inside, a result of how thoroughly and harshly he had ravaged her.
She stared blankly at the door, waiting for Lancart’s return. When the door showed no sign of opening, she tugged the bedside cord to summon a maid.
The maid entered, shocked at the obvious signs of their night, but Sylvia, feigning calm, ordered the maid to prepare a warm bath.
Soon, Rossa would hear about the night they had shared. When word reached her that Sylvia was pregnant, Rossa would likely ease up on her torment.
Rationalizing the brutal night as the right choice—for her family and herself—Sylvia forced herself to accept it.
Her suspicious gaze briefly fell on the blindfold, lying crumpled between the sheets with tears dried on its edges, before she sighed and looked away.

This time, it was the husband who went to meet the Crown Prince.
Sylvia, still weak from the intense night and afraid her husband might cause trouble even at the palace, reluctantly climbed into the carriage with him.
Their bond hadn’t grown especially stronger. She found herself strangely upset that he hadn’t stayed by her side that day. When had she started to care for him so much? They were an arranged couple, not lovers.
“Wife.”
“…”
“Wife, are you asleep?”
In the cramped carriage, Sylvia sat across from her husband, eyes closed and lost in thought. She stubbornly pretended to sleep to avoid responding.
Of course, Kuinan could tell from the slightest twitch of her eyelids and her uneven breathing that she was awake. His fingertips trembled slightly—sharp claws that had once ended human lives hovered just beneath the shadows.
“Hmm. Since you’re sleeping, maybe I’ll have some fun.”
He deliberately didn’t say what “fun” meant. As he murmured this, Sylvia’s unnatural expression stiffened. Her lips and eyes twitched as if convulsing; it was clear she ought to open her eyes out of embarrassment.
Lancart sprang up and moved beside her.
Thud—
Startled, Sylvia jumped in place and finally opened her eyes, pretending to be surprised at the movement. He studied her deep blue eyes with a crooked, smirking expression.
“Did you sleep well?”
Sylvia felt pressured by the way he looked at her, as if he knew she hadn’t slept, and couldn’t meet his gaze directly.
Their physical closeness had increased since that night, though Lancart hadn’t explicitly requested s*x. Without her knowing, he had started gauging how well her body had healed each time he touched her, like a doctor examining a patient.
Sylvia still found the night’s events suspicious. Being blindfolded didn’t mean she’d been completely helpless.
It had not been normal s*x, and his body wasn’t normal either.
