Chapter 35
The monster had no intention of following any soft human principle like “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth”.
That wasn’t how monsters worked. They didn’t simply return a single blow for a single blow. Instead, they needed to inflict ten, even a hundred times the pain back to satisfy themselves.
Although he hadn’t been slapped directly this time, he was still annoyed—and ready to punish the woman.
‘An ankle? No, that can’t be it. She just wouldn’t be able to wander around outside all lively like that; she’d probably just hole up inside this house.’
For once, the monster pondered deeply. For the first time, he carefully planned his next moves, executing his scheme slowly in his mind—just like a human would.
While he was mulling it over, the woman stirred again, and in the process, her hand brushed against his thigh.
“Hmm…?”
The strange sensation caused her eyelids to flutter as if she was trying to wake up.
The man didn’t move; he leisurely watched her until she barely opened her eyes. It was pitch dark anyway, so she most likely wouldn’t realize an intruder was present.
If she did, that would be interesting on its own. Soon, she began to feel along his thigh again.
“—Hah.”
Her eyes snapped open as her fingertips traced every inch of his sturdy thigh. When her pale, glazed eyes met his, the man thought she was surprisingly perceptive and stared back calmly.
Just then, Rossa suddenly rose from her bed, about to shout for her servants.
Like a wild beast, the intruder lunged, completely overpowering her. He pinned her down with all his weight pressing on her limbs. He was no human but a monster. Though appearing to weigh about as much as an adult man, he was actually twice as heavy.
The woman let out a sharp, helpless moan.
“Ugh…!”
It sounded like a hunted animal’s pitiful cry. The man liked it so much he bucked on top of her. The shock made her open her mouth and tremble violently. One of her wrists, apparently broken or crushed, twitched weakly.
[What a worthless thing. Why’d you touch my exclusive hole and piss me off?]
The woman wasn’t important to the man—just a fleshy hole. But to keep that hole “usable”, the owner had to stay alive and healthy, so naturally, he had to manage those around his exclusive hole.
Whispering in the monster’s language into her ear, the woman couldn’t understand but kept moaning in pain. She begged for mercy, tears and snot streaming down her face. The monster kept cursing her sharply in a language she couldn’t comprehend, warning her:
[Next time, it won’t end with just one broken wrist.]
“Ugh…! P-please, spare my life… I’m the master of this castle! I can give you treasures or anything… gag!”
She spat out lies and blasphemed against the being wearing the castle’s master’s skin. The monster didn’t move his hand yet, but as if reacting to her blasphemy, the creature’s hand instinctively gripped her neck. Fascinated by the phenomenon, he slowly loosened his grip.
Cough, hack!
She coughed violently twice, bringing up blood-streaked phlegm. Her eyes were bloodshot and she drooled. The monster thought that the woman was not badly hurt.
Hack! Cough, hack!
[Doesn’t seem broken, but I’d better make sure.]
While she coughed pitifully, he looked at her swollen wrist and spoke nonchalantly. Then he suddenly grabbed her wrist tightly. Breaking it would make her think twice before slapping again.
She screamed. As he hissed a beastly sound, she shut her mouth, and he resumed his actions.
Crack!
“Aaahhh!”
Her piercing scream echoed through the castle and lights came out one by one. Several servants woke up and jumped up in alarm.
The intruder quickly fled the room, climbed the balcony, and crouched under the Duke and Duchess’s bedcovers.
“Ahhh, ahhh!”
At last, the monster closed his eyes peacefully, lulling himself to sleep with her screams as a lullaby.
As he’d told his wife earlier that day, it was strange indeed. Why did such rage flare up just because his mate got slapped once?
He thought to ask Hector when he sent his right-arm crow, but then realized it would be nonsense Hector would despise, so he dropped the idea.
