Chapter 42
“P-please spare my life.”
“Hm, that’s difficult.”
“Th-then, please… just quickly….”
Such pleas after only one day of torture meant that the Crown Prince had been a bit rampant. Perhaps due to abstaining from his nightly womanizing.
His soul was made up almost entirely of lust and bloodlust. If either was left unsatisfied, he rampaged like a madman even at official functions. That’s why, for years, he had never appeared publicly with unmet desires.
“Hmph. Asking to be killed quickly?”
No matter how long it took, all his prey begged for death the moment he touched them—whether loudly weeping, quietly crying.
Sometimes he would whimsically grant their wish. Most pleas, however, were utterly ignored.
Today…was no exception.
The spiked whip was the mildest of his torture tools. Next, he would use iron clamps that painfully tore apart bone. The pirate, clearly terrified, crawled toward the Crown Prince as the chains rattle.
The Crown Prince laughed and stepped back just enough. The prison floor wasn’t smooth—it was roughened like sandpaper to hurt those who crawled. Soon, the pirate’s knees were raw and bleeding, his cries echoing in anguish.
“Please… stop…”
“Stop begging. I’m already getting tired.”
The twenty-five year old man, resembling a monster in his utter loss of humanity, showed no sympathy for the suffering victim despite the heart-wrenching pleas.
Instead, he grew annoyed. Don’t ruin his mood. Then he kicked the pirate’s head with his boot. The man cried out and collapsed, motionless.
“…”
The Crown Prince keenly sensed the irregular breathing of someone pretending to sleep. The pirate was pretending. The Crown Prince chuckled and deliberately picked up a torture iron from the floor.
“…Hnn.”
The man’s shoulders trembled violently, the spikes embedded in his back shook together like a hedgehog. Despite being doomed, the Crown Prince explained his future plans in detail—he took his duties seriously.
“For the prosperity of the empire.”
He began with an elderly tone.
“Even lowly criminals like you cannot be killed without reason. We extract information through experiments before death. The continent is at war—some lands are losing to monsters, others defeating them completely.”
His empire was successfully doing the latter—thanks to him. The Crown Prince fastened shackles on the pirate’s swollen ankles and wrists.
“Bear the discomfort. And if you feel you’re about to die, say so.”
Then I’ll tend to somewhere else. That way, you might live longer. The terrified pirate cursed in his mother tongue. The Crown Prince partially understood and laughed.
Soon, the horrific torture resumed.
“Aaagh!”
“I will ascend the throne in three months and wipe out all monsters within a year. When my Empire rules the continent, who needs allies? You’re just an early casualty of that future…”
Excited by the sight of blood and flesh, the Crown Prince rambled until the prisoner could no longer scream. He remained in the dungeon all day and night.
At dawn, drenched in pirate blood, the Crown Prince left the prison and suddenly thought of Lancart.
He had a task for him. He brushed back his sweat-damp platinum hair with a smile.
“I’ll have to call him soon.”
A smile, bright and innocent, appeared on the Crown Prince’s face as he recalled the precious gift received from the Duke.
