Chapter 74
She spoke resolutely.
“I don’t want to have s*x.”
“Hmm…”
“You understand, right? Get up. Who knows when the monsters outside might attack… ugh!”
Bending to pick up clothing, Sylvia was struck with a sudden, severe abdominal pain and collapsed. Vertigo swept over her, blurring her vision. Lying on her side, her husband’s face appeared close, observing her expression with an indifferent look.
“Oh… are you okay, Wife? Seems like a poisoning symptom.”
His tone was calm, yet caring. Sylvia tried moving one arm, only to realize her body was paralyzed. Fear surged like a tidal wave. Pale, she slowly moved her lips.
“Why… all of a sudden?”
“Your body is adjusting… to the swamp.”
It had been miraculous she’d survived so far without symptoms. In the castle, she’d only experienced mild fever; no foaming at the mouth, no stupor, no unconsciousness. She was fortunate.
Kuinan, the monster, was still bound by the swamp’s overwhelming demonic energy—unable to fully control it or help her.
There was only one solution.
“What will you do, Wife?”
“Hah… what?”
“Hold on, you’ll be fine. Probably a day or two…”
Perhaps that was why she got hypersensitive. The swamp accepted her and she accepted it and the energy syncing together. The swamp could easily draw her energy, but absorbing its energy was not simple.
“A day or two…?”
Leaving herself vulnerable for that long would invite attack. Even an hour would risk immediate assault, with her flesh torn by claws and teeth, intestines ripped, devoured alive—horrifying just to imagine.
“I’ll try to protect you, but I can’t guarantee it.”
His expression bore no deception. Sometimes, he looked like that. Remarkably human and honest—a rare sight from him. But none of that mattered now; only the immediate danger did.
“So, what do we do?”
Earlier he asked as if there was a method. Sylvia only wanted to survive. She did not know Kuinan’s actions in the castle had caused this crisis. If she did, she wouldn’t cling to him so desperately.
“What we do… is mate.”
Earlier, he had attacked her out of lust. He just wanted to have s*x. That was his reason enough to subdue her.
Now, it was unavoidable—they had to mate to synchronize her energy with the swamp. As a native swamp creature, he could serve as the conduit for the demonic energy.
Sylvia’s face went blank. Kuinan looked down, twitching his lips in excitement, wanting to open and slip his tongue into her mouth.
Normally, humans’ lip-to-lip contact wouldn’t excite him, yet here it did. He controlled himself briefly, testing with his sly tongue.
“This isn’t for me—it’s for you.”
Either mate or lay there and risk perishing here like an insect. From Sylvia’s perspective, survival odds were slim either way, but the first option seemed slightly more hopeful.
Her husband’s face showed he spoke the truth.
“Poison can be countered with poison. Your body is already contaminated.”
“….”
“Think positively. Once your body adapts, moving in the swamp will be easier. Even if your feet sink, it won’t take much effort.”
Over centuries, the Blavat Swamp had become a fully established monster territory. Humans mistakenly thought it was polluted; in truth, it was revitalized as a living land for monsters. To those imbued with demonic energy, the swamp was kind.
“Do you want to die, or mate?”
Sylvia didn’t question the mechanism of energy transfer. She simply trusted her husband—he had never been this serious before.
Covered in mud, she lay down beside him, facing the purplish-green terrain.
The swamp sharpened her senses; she weakly beckoned her husband.
“…I want to do it.”
The monster who understood her clear declaration, smiled wickedly and pressed himself over the woman who had closed her eyes.
