Craving for more? Read the COMPLETE novel on ko-fi!

Sylaria’s hand clamped around Grizelle’s ankle. Coughing violently with her face flushed bright red, she yanked Grizelle’s foot. Caught off guard, Grizelle toppled backward.

“Kyaah!”

Cough, cough cough!

Sylaria grabbed her neck and coughed repeatedly. At the same time, she glared at Grizelle sprawled on the floor. Her purple eyes shone fiercely beneath her disheveled brown hair.

“Ow…”

Grizelle winced and whined after falling hard on her backside. Before she could get up, Sylaria moved quickly and straddled her. Then she slapped Grizelle hard across the face.

Smack!

SMACK!

Sparks flew in Sylaria’s eyes. She glared down at Grizelle, grinding her teeth. As she kept striking her until Sylaria’s own hand stung, Grizelle grabbed her wrist.

“You…!”

“Let go. Let this go!”

Sylaria and Grizelle wrestled. Grizelle’s cheeks flushed red and swollen, and Sylaria, straddling her, grappled fiercely as they rolled back and forth.

Grizelle kicked Sylaria’s knee that was braced on the floor and twisted her body sharply. Sylaria lost her balance and fell, and this time Grizelle ended up on top. She leaned in, her crimson eyes glinting as she jeered.

“You could have died quietly. Instead you stab me in the back?”

“Who stabbed whose back first.”

Sylaria glared up at her, her gaze twisting. For a moment she had worried about her. About her child. But what she received in return was a horrifying betrayal.

To let loose the person Sylaria feared most. To hold the hand of someone less than human like Wilder and go this far just to kill her. The tenacity and filthy malice of it all made Sylaria shudder.

“Why did you tell him to kill me? What did I ever do wrong?”

“Do you have to ask… Kyaaah!”

The tip of a cold blue blade suddenly pressed against Grizelle’s throat as she loomed over Sylaria. Standing before them was Euclid, his own hand gripping his neck as he glared. He bared his teeth, fury seething.

“What do you think you are doing?”

“W…Why are you here!”

Grizelle looked up at Euclid with wide eyes. Instead of answering, he pressed the blade deeper against her throat. A thin red line formed on her skin, and Grizelle froze, lifting both hands into the air.

“Stop. Stop it, please!”

Sylaria pushed Grizelle off her and sat up with effort. Breathing heavily, she glared at the former friend who had become her enemy.

Grizelle had smiled the moment Wilder appeared. The way she had beamed as she egged him on to kill Sylaria was still vivid in Sylaria’s mind.

She would never forget it for as long as she lived.

The immense fear and despair that crashed down on her like a tidal wave when she faced Wilder. And the bone-deep sense of betrayal toward Grizelle. It was the first time Sylaria had ever felt anything like it.

She had thought being betrayed by Grizelle was something that ended in her previous life. Yet here she was again, deceiving her in the same manner. It was astonishing what sort of person she was.

With no one to call for help, no way to escape, and death looming over her, the only thing Sylaria could do was pretend to be dead.

Because Wilder clearly had no intention of stopping until she actually died.

After feigning death, she held her breath and waited desperately for him to leave. She had been certain he would exit the room. He was the sort of man whose hands trembled if he didn’t drink even for a moment.

As expected, the moment he believed Sylaria dead, Wilder began looking for alcohol.

Sylaria endured until he left the room, gathering every ounce of strength and waiting for the one opportunity to strike Grizelle.

And when that moment came, she seized it without hesitation.

Euclid, who shared senses with Sylaria, would have felt the exact same pain. Sylaria fought Grizelle fiercely as she waited for him to arrive. And just as she trusted, Euclid rushed in. The moment he saw the bright red handprints on Sylaria’s neck, he rounded on Grizelle.

Okay seriously. She is the future crown Princess. At the VERY MINIMUM Grizelle, the empress’s maid, and her “father”, should all be executed. We all know there’s no way that bastard or the empress will be put down. But at the VERY LEAST their “hands” should be. Even if they say this was all her scheme. Those 3 were a physical part of it and should all be hung, period. I hate when the good guys don’t INSIST on these things. Fine. We’ll all know the empress and aren are like the final villains. But at the VERY least considering she almost d!ed, those 3 should be gone. Also, what is this crappy cliffhanger?! Half the chapter was just her saying what happened which was all extremely obvious.

Sad thing about how this novel is going is that I feel it becoming a new troupe. I just got off reading another novel somewhere and the same nonsense. A Kingdom where anyone could attack the royal family through most of the novel and nearly kill a royal family member without repercussions until near end of novel. How does a Monarchy function when you don't have to respect your rulers and can get away with almost any crime for so long? What is the point of calling yourself a ruler when you are literally free labor that can be killed off at the whims of commoners at any time without consequence?
