Chapter 143
“Ah, Miss Sue… you’re…”
Duvalkan couldn’t finish his sentence.
With her indoor robe still on, hastily thrown on due to the sudden rush, and her thick, curly brown hair dripping with water, he was left speechless at the sight and the fragrant scent of soap that wafted from inside.
“What’s going on?”
She asked with the same confident attitude she had shown yesterday, but if she hadn’t, he might’ve stood there dumbfounded, his mouth hanging open.
“What do you mean, ‘what’? Do you realize you’re absent without leave?”
“Absent without leave? Oh, yeah. I’ll just quit my work at the temple.”
Ashtel decided to brazen it out.
Right now, Payne was being tormented in her room with a d-ldo shoved in his back, and Carmen’s tools were scattered all over the place.
If Duvalkan attempted to detect magic, it would be dangerous in an instant.
‘I’ll just push him away with a little bad attitude!’
If she created a friendly atmosphere, she might end up letting him inside the house.
Ashtel narrowed her round eyes sharply and glared at Duvalkan, peeking her head out from behind the door like a cat.
‘She looks like an angry cat.’
Meanwhile, Duvalkan, who was the target of her glare, couldn’t help but smile mischievously as he covered his lips.
“You can’t act like this. You need to come to work tomorrow and go through the proper procedures.”
“Do I really have to?”
“Yes.”
Ashtel thought for a moment.
Katzel Medialle had been established for thousands of years, so there had to have been others like her, right?
“Just handle it yourself. I don’t need the accumulated pay.”
“Eh?”
As Ashtel waved her hand and tried to close the door as casually as possible, Duvalkan’s large foot slipped between the gap.
Duvalkan smirked, trying his best not to look below Ashtel’s neck.
“Don’t do that. You should at least take the money.”
“I don’t need it.”
“You should buy something nice for Moa.”
“I said it’s fine.”
A fierce struggle began between the one trying to close the door and the one trying to open it.
Ashtel groaned and pulled on the door handle with all her might, but she couldn’t push Duvalkan’s solid foot out of the way.
He chuckled and grabbed the doorknob, quickly pushing it back, causing Ashtel to stumble forward and crash into his chest with a loud thud.
“Ugh?!”
She let out a comical sound as she buried her face in his chest.
“What… what are you doing? Let go!”
“I’m not the one holding you.”
“Anyway!”
The feisty little kitten’s defiance ended almost embarrassingly easily.
Duvalkan hesitated, then saw the string that had been covering Ashtel’s front loosen, quickly turning his head away and clearing his throat.
“Miss, I’m sorry to say this, but your attire seems rather… unusual right now.”
“I was in the middle of a bath when an uninvited guest showed up.”
“Oh, I seem to have come at the wrong time.”
“If you know, then… could you please leave?”
“Did you just tell me to leave?”
It didn’t particularly matter to Ashtel if a human man saw her body, but now, since she had decided to devote everything to Payne, she managed to break free from Duvalkan’s hold and tie her robe properly.
She crossed her arms and glared at him, but this time, he looked troubled by something else.
‘What’s wrong with her chest…?’
The soft, rounded shadow from the light behind her curved over her chest.
If she had worn it loosely, the fabric wouldn’t have clung, but since it was fixed tightly, her white upper chest was left exposed.
Perhaps it was the fact that she had just gotten out of the bath, but the image was far more provocative than when she had worn a revealing dress to get attention from him.
Duvalkan couldn’t stop his gaze and, leaning against the door like a rogue, looked down at Ashtel with a stern expression.
‘What’s going on?’
With a gaze that seemed like he was ready to devour her, Ashtel naturally tensed.
‘Did he figure something out?’
Come to think of it, didn’t he also not call Payne’s name when he knocked on the door?
Ashtel realized it was time for her to make her move.
“Payne isn’t here.”
“Are you referring to Father Payne?”
“Ah, yes. Father Payne.”
The light from the cabin seemed to make Duvalkan’s sharp eyes glint brightly.
Suddenly, the atmosphere felt different.
Ashtel, not realizing it was due to her exposed chest, took a step back.
“Anyway, I just didn’t want to go back to the temple anymore.”
“Hmm…”
“The matter is settled, right? I’d like to finish my bath now.”
“Then, Miss, who is the man currently in your bedroom?”
“What?”
She tried to hide her flustered reaction but her voice cracked.
Ashtel looked around nervously as she nervously fidgeted with her feet.
“I-I don’t know what you mean?”
“I heard a voice earlier. A man’s voice.”
