Chapter 248
Roina looked at the tree again and spoke wistfully. The tree was so enormous that it felt as if a single root filled almost the entire space. When she looked at it up close, the tree’s trunk stretched infinitely upwards, and a mysterious wave of light warmly enveloped everything around it.
For some reason, Roina felt a surge of emotion and pressed down on one side of her chest.
Also, upon closer inspection, she saw that tree bark was scattering along with the wave.
These particles, like powder falling from the tree, were surprisingly like rocks and contained abundant mana.
“…Mana stones?”
Roina murmured in surprise. What was coming from the tree was the mana stone that the empire had been searching for so desperately. Looking around, she sensed that several more water passages were connected, centered around this tree. They were probably connected to the temples of Aiha. And probably scattered in the desert. Because there were creatures in the desert that fed on these mana stones.
Roina gazed at the scene, as if mesmerized. A strangely pleasant and warm breeze seemed to swirl around her. The tree seemed to be calling her. Come here, it’s okay.
Her hesitation was long, but her action was quick. She moved closer to the tree and placed her palm on it. Ethan reached out his hand to stop her, but Roina was faster.
The texture of soft moss and aquatic plants enveloped her palm. Roina shuddered at the sensation, as if someone was embracing her. A sensation of assimilation, a sensation of something connecting. Closing her eyes and concentrating, a distant and familiar sensation was conveyed to her.
‘This is…’
“Lutan.”
It was Lutan’s energy.
Tears suddenly streamed down Roina’s cheeks. Everything around her became inaudible and invisible. It felt distant. She vividly felt the hot tears flowing down her cheeks.
Before her, Lutan was standing. With the same appearance as when he looked at her tenderly and tried to hold onto her as a man. Roina covered her mouth.
“Are you, are you alright now?”
Her voice, filled with emotion, echoed around her. Jet-black and long hair, a body that appeared slender at first glance but was intricately woven with firm muscles, and golden eyes that were cold and sharp but turned gentle when he looked at her.
He was not in the form of a golden dragon covered in scales, which was the last thing she remembered. He was standing before her in his complete form.
He smiled gently and warmly, cupped her cheeks, and embraced her. Roina leaned into his warm embrace and felt him completely. He held her tightly, as if he would never let her go again.
“Lutan, because of me, you ended up like that, and I thought about it over and over. Why did it have to be like this, what were my feelings?”
Roina mumbled into his embrace. The hands that patted her shoulders and back were unbelievably soft and warm.
“I, I, Lutan…”
I think I love you.
She tried to say that, but the words wouldn’t come out easily, and she just sobbed. At that moment, Lutan gently stroked her ear and used his hand to lift her chin, making her look up. She saw his attractively long nose, sharp eyes, and masculine jaw. Roina felt shy for some reason and couldn’t look at him properly.
Then, Lutan lowered his head and came closer to her.
With a fluttering heart, Roina slowly closed her eyes. Because she was thinking of kissing him.
However, at that moment, Roina suddenly felt a chill and pushed Lutan away. Her strength wasn’t that great, but Lutan staggered and stepped back a few paces.
“…Oh dear.”
A strange voice flowed from Lutan’s lips. A man’s baritone. Lutan had a more masculine and lower voice. The moment Roina heard that voice, she felt goosebumps all over her body.
“Who are you?”
As soon as Roina realized and asked, the world shattered. The white, enormous tree that had embraced her, and the surrounding waves, were nowhere to be felt. Only darkness and silence surrounded her.
“It was almost perfect, what a shame… Was I too hasty?”
The man with Lutan’s face smiled slyly. As he spoke more, she seemed to know whose voice it was. Roina stared at him with shocked eyes. His eyes, which she looked at again, were purple.
“What… what did you do to me?”
Roina’s voice trembled uncontrollably.
