Chapter 23
The only thing she wished for was that Regnos, whom she had met on Aitalosian soil, would safely seize victory. If it was for his sake, she felt she could throw away this insignificant life at that moment.
‘Until then…’
Even someone like me will have use. So even if it is wretched, let us stay alive for now.
“Princess.”
At dusk, Melgardi cautiously called out to her.
She had once again brought thin, fluttering sleepwear to show her. But the sleepwear laid out one by one was far thinner than what she had seen the day before, and the amount of fabric used was incomparably less.
In short, if she wore these, she would look indisputably obscene and lewd.
“Something else…”
“I am terribly sorry, but there was an order to dress you only in what has been prepared.”
Lena clenched her teeth hard. Had that brief moment of pushing him away last night touched his temper?
With resignation, Lena let Melgardi drape the scrap of fabric in question onto her body. Standing before the mirror, she saw that only her chest and essential parts were barely covered. And even that with a half-transparent fabric.
Showing herself in such a state to Emperor Godfrid felt worse than simply being naked.
But if she truly were naked, that man might actually welcome it with open arms. Lenasia simply kept her mouth shut tight while Melgardi finished grooming her.
Once Melgardi lit the lamp near the bed and left, Godfrid soon entered. While he removed his robe, Lena hid her body under the blanket. It was because she did not want him to see her in clothes that were worse than wearing nothing at all.
She had hated it right after looking in the mirror, but now that he was actually here, she could not show herself in such a state even if it killed her.
“…What are you doing right now?”
When Godfrid pulled at the blanket and Lena refused to let go, he raised an eyebrow as if provoked. Lena clutched the blanket wrapped around her body as though it were a lifeline and whimpered.
“…”
Godfrid, who had been watching that sight under the lamplight, released the blanket he held in one hand. Then he climbed on top of her as she was rolled up in the white cloth.
“Now you are finally showing a face that resembles a person.”
“…?”
“All this time, whenever you were in my arms, you were too busy staring into empty space with dead eyes. At times, it almost felt like holding a corpse.”
Lena opened her eyes wide and glared at him. No matter how absolute his will might be, to take her by force and then insult her by calling her a corpse.
She had been treated so carelessly that she had no dignity left to fall further, yet it seemed there were still corners of her heart that could be wounded.
“That is because you…”
“Hm?”
“…Why, do you say such things?”
Even just saying those simple words made her lips tremble violently. A belated fear crept in that he might punish her for talking back.
But contrary to her worry, the man slowly lifted the corners of his mouth.
His golden eyes, shining with a color similar to the flickering lamplight, fully reflected her image. Lenasia clamped her mouth shut again with a gasp.
Even without a single word, the killing intent blooming from his expressionless face froze her. A belated regret washed over her, wondering if she had provoked him with careless words.
“Now you finally have a bit of life about you.”
“Pardon?”
“I am not fond of defiance against an emperor, but this is far better than acting like a corpse.”
At those words, Lena felt an indescribable shame and sorrow once again. When she glared at him with eyes brimming with tears, Godfrid smiled slightly and pressed himself closer against her body.
His body was like a great mountain. Lena’s entire body was buried in the shadow cast by that mountain, and the hands pressing down on her wrists were large and hard.
When she squirmed in frustration, every part of his body that touched her was solidly built with well-formed muscle.
“It seems I have a fondness for you when you radiate vivid energy. Look, my body is already responding.”
As Godfrid said, his center had already sprung up, touching against her navel. Something as large and hard as a club kept moving, pressing between Lena’s legs.
But she shut her eyes and turned her head away.
‘As if he is not already in heat and lunging at me at every chance he gets.’
In her view, the look in her eyes had never made any difference to this brute’s lust. But Godfrid seemed to think otherwise.
“Look at me.”
