Chapter 123
His sharp gaze, like a warning, pierced through her. Psyche simply stared at him without a word.
When she didn’t respond, Rezus turned his head and walked toward the door. His steps were calm, but there was an inexplicable hint of hesitation in them. Soon, the door opened, he disappeared, and it closed firmly behind him.
‘……I really didn’t think he’d stop.’
Though she had genuinely hoped he would stop, she hadn’t expected her words to actually work. While relief washed over her, his retreating figure lingered strangely in her mind.
* * *
“Huh.”
Psyche abruptly sat up. She couldn’t remember when she had fallen asleep, nor could she gauge how much time had passed. It must have been quite a while… she seemed to have been asleep for a long time. Reflexively, she checked the calendar.
“Ah……”
It was June 29th. A whole week had already passed since the incident where she had nearly been assaulted by all four of them. Since that day, Psyche hadn’t been able to catch even a glimpse of the male leads. And strangely, she had been overcome with an overwhelming need to sleep. Once she fell asleep, she would stay unconscious for about two days straight.
The only silver lining was that this time, only a day had passed. She had been worried that she might have been out for over a week, but thankfully, that wasn’t the case.
She let out a small sigh and brushed her chest lightly. Suddenly feeling thirsty, she glanced around and noticed a water pitcher and a set of cups on the bedside table.
Psyche immediately poured herself a glass of water and gulped it down. The cool water flowed down her throat, washing away the remnants of sleepiness. She poured herself another glass, noticing that the water tasted unusually sweet.
Was water always this sweet…?
Wait, now that she thought about it, it wasn’t just the taste of the water that felt different. The rustling sound of the sheets as she moved, the subtle, soft fragrance lingering in the room, even the warm air settling on her skin—everything felt more vivid than usual.
Why? It was as if all her senses had become several times sharper…
As that thought crossed her mind, her heart began to race. Thump, thump. She placed her hand over her left chest, feeling the increasingly rapid heartbeat. Trying to steady her breathing, which was growing rough from excitement, she smiled silently.
Abilities don’t manifest overnight. It varies from person to person, but usually, there are physical and mental changes beforehand—like suddenly feeling lighter or thinking more clearly.
Among these, the most definitive change is the sharpening of the five senses. It meant that the manifestation of her ability was truly close now.
All her relentless efforts were finally paying off. Something surged within her chest. Just then—
“Let’s stop now. This really doesn’t feel right.”
Serdin’s voice came from somewhere. Her eyes widened, and she quickly focused her attention in the direction of the sound. As she did, all other noises around her faded away. The only thing that filled her ears was the sound coming from that direction.
“If it hasn’t worked even after all this, then it just won’t.”
Even just listening to his voice, she could feel how exhausted Serdin was. She held her breath. She didn’t particularly enjoy eavesdropping like a mouse… but this felt like something she needed to hear.
“Let’s stop now. This really doesn’t feel right. If it hasn’t worked even after all this, then it just won’t.”
Rezus stared at Serdin with a look of disbelief. No matter how he thought about it, he felt that if they left things as they were, they would only end up being further manipulated by Psyche. That’s why he had given the order to assault her. But to react like this? A scoff escaped his lips.
“You’re quick to give up.”
“Quick to give up, huh?”
Serdin let out a hollow laugh, echoing Rezus’s words. His voice was low, almost threatening.
“She didn’t spill any secrets even when we threatened her with filming. What’s the point of going further now?”
“…….”
“The answer’s already clear. As long as she’s Mathes and we’re Arje, nothing we do will matter. Torturing Psyche any further is just a waste of time and a pointless venting of frustration. So.”
A long sigh escaped Serdin’s lips.
“Let’s stop now.”
He looked utterly exhausted, as if he couldn’t stand the disgust he felt for himself.
“It’s already late, but… I think it’s right to push forward now. Maybe now is our best chance.”
Rezus, who had been staring at him intently, suddenly laughed and leaned back deeply into his chair. Crossing his arms, he tilted his head slightly.
