Chapter 147
“…….”
“……Please.”
Her face contorted at his pleading tone. Psyche pushed against his chest with all her might. She thought he would stand firm like a rock, no, that he would restrain her even more tightly, but surprisingly, Rezus yielded easily.
She was about to shout at him to get out but hesitated. He wore an expression she had never seen before. In this moment, with only the blue, pale moonlight faintly cast upon him, that expression was strangely etched clearly in her eyes.
A gaze that could be either anger or concern. Yet simultaneously, it was a face that conveyed powerlessness and agitation.
Psyche’s lips moved wordlessly as if at a loss for words, then she muttered.
“……You give me the creeps.”
Her eyes filled with deep contempt and disgust.
“The more you act like this, the more it creeps me out…….”
Her lower lip trembled violently. Her already unstable breathing grew rougher, her voice rising.
“Why are you suddenly acting this way? This isn’t who you usually are.”
“…….”
“You’re the person who violated me without a second thought, threatened me, and acted like you’d kill me if I irritated you even slightly. So why are you acting like this now!”
The more she spoke, the more her anger rose uncontrollably. She struck his chest hard with her fist, crying out in rage.
“Act like you normally do! Keep threatening me while spouting that b******t about how I should be grateful for only being r***d, like you always do! This doesn’t suit you and it’s creeping me out……!”
But even that was too much for her frail body. After only the sound of her panting filled the air briefly, she let out a sneer.
“Or, or why don’t you do what you’re best at instead?”
His large body flinched for a moment. He seemed to anticipate what was coming next.
“R**e, that’s what you’re best at, isn’t it?”
“…….”
“What’s wrong, am I too unattractive now for you to think of doing that? Then just order the other family heads to do it and watch me suffer. That’s the kind of person you are!”
Her small fists hit his chest repeatedly before falling limply. Finally, a heavy silence settled between them.
It was when her breathing had somewhat stabilized. Finally, cutting through the heavy silence, words that were almost impossible to believe brushed against her ear.
“……If I said I regret every one of those moments, would you believe me?”
“……What?”
“Of course you wouldn’t. I can hardly believe it myself.”
“……Nonsense.”
Rezus clenched his fist until his knuckles turned white, then smiled faintly and lowered his head. After staring only at the floor, he slowly raised his gaze. For a long while, he stared at her with eyes that seemed expressionless yet somehow burning with longing—eyes difficult to describe—then his lips slowly parted.
“You’re right. It’s nonsense.”
“…….”
This wasn’t the first time he had looked at her with such eyes. At the hunting competition where she first participated, at the ball where she officially debuted in society, when they happened to meet at the summer resort.
Rezus had always looked at her that way. With eyes that seemed indifferent yet desperately yearning, strangely contradictory eyes that made one feel strange just by looking into them.
He had watched her for a long time.
What exactly was that look? She had always wondered. But now she thought she might understand what it meant.
She let out a hollow laugh.
“Ha……. Helios told me. That I was the first love of all of you.”
She wanted to snap at him sharply, but after screaming so much, she no longer had the energy.
“But does that make any sense? If I really was your first love, how could you possibly do such things…….”
She muttered weakly.
“It was the most unfunny joke of my life.”
“…….”
“But…… do you know what’s even less funny?”
Suddenly her lips firmly closed. This was something she would never have said normally. A secret she had intended to bury in her heart forever.
But was it because of his gaze that reminded her of the past, or because her body and mind weren’t normal? Her lips moved on their own, and a cruel truth flowed out for both of them.
“You were my first love.”
Rezus took a deep breath.
“When I first saw you at the hunting competition…… even though so many people surrounded me…….”
Throughout her words, she kept looking down.
“I only saw you.”
Because of that, she didn’t see how his pupils widened in disbelief, then wavered with denial and confusion, and for the briefest moment, colored with delight before immediately twisting with anguish.
“……I still can’t forget that day.”
