Chapter 163
* * *
“……You’re attending?”
Psyche paused while adjusting her clothes and turned around in surprise. Serdin kissed the back of her neck with a composed expression and said.
“They say they’ll just make a brief appearance and leave, but if you’re uncomfortable, you don’t have to attend.”
“…….”
Psyche couldn’t continue speaking for a while. Rezus, Terche, and Helios attending the victory celebration banquet……. It was the most surprising thing she had heard recently.
For half a year, they hadn’t shown themselves at any official occasions. Even while resolving threats from surrounding countries as if obsessed with war, they had declined all invitations to banquets celebrating their victories.
They would appear in other countries, but within Sicardo, they hadn’t shown themselves for even a moment, to the point where rumors circulated that they were keeping to their homes except during wartime.
And that rumor was true. So why attend this victory celebration banquet? What sudden change of heart had occurred?
“……Will Serdin attend?”
“I’m also just planning to make a brief appearance.”
She stared at him intently before lowering her gaze. Until now, Psyche and Serdin had always attended all official occasions together as partners. She wanted to do the same this time, but…….
“I think you should go alone this time, Serdin.”
She expressed her intention not to attend with a faint smile. No matter how brief they said it would be, she didn’t want to face them even for that moment.
……She had definitely thought that way. But before she knew it, she found herself beautifully adorned from head to toe, attending the victory celebration banquet with Serdin.
Numerous gazes were fixed on her. Among those gazes were those of Rezus, Terche, and Helios.
They stared so intensely that people around them were whispering. There were even nobles saying that if they kept looking like that, they might actually bore a hole through Psyche’s face. But strangely…… that gaze wasn’t unpleasant.
“Have those bastards gone mad……. Psyche, I think we’d better leave.”
Beside her, Serdin suggested moving away while grinding his teeth, but she didn’t want to. She wanted to keep receiving those gazes. It was something she herself couldn’t understand at all.
“……I want…… to be alone for a moment.”
She thought that getting some fresh air might bring her back to her senses. Serdin tried to follow her, but when Psyche firmly refused once more, he couldn’t hold her back any longer.
The cold wind on the empty balcony seemed to clear her mind somewhat. Just as she exhaled a long sigh and swept back her fallen hair, she sensed someone’s presence.
“Phrena, hello.”
As the wind tousled her hair, a beautiful voice from behind gently tickled her ear. She turned around with a start. The platinum-haired handsome man hesitated in his steps, then curved his eyes prettily.
“It’s been a while.”
“…….”
She examined the man standing about three steps away from top to bottom. He radiated light from his face in a way that made it hard to believe he had been shuttling only between the battlefield and home all this time. Anyone looking at him would think he had been eating well, sleeping well, and living well during this period.
Helios was still as elegant and beautiful as a classical masterpiece, and not a trace of hardship could be found on his smooth face.
Even in the dark night, his platinum hair sparkled dazzlingly, and his vibrant red lips shone seductively.
It was truly an irritatingly beautiful appearance.
“Have you finished admiring?”
“…….”
“I’m aroused.”
Uncharacteristically blushing, the man lowered his gaze as if embarrassed.
“Because you’re staring so intensely.”
Then, as if he had never been embarrassed, he met her gaze again, smiled until his mouth nearly tore, and looked at her with half-lidded eyes.
“You’ve finally decided to accept us, right? That’s why you came out despite knowing we would attend today. Right?”
“……You’re still shameless, aren’t you.”
“And you still can’t be honest.”
Just then, the sound of slow footsteps approaching the balcony was heard. The presence felt was so intense it was almost suffocating just from the sound of those footsteps. The moment her gaze slid past Helios, the balcony door opened and their eyes met. It was Rezus.
A heavy silence descended instantly. In the silence, Helios looked at Psyche, Psyche looked at Rezus, and Rezus looked only at Psyche. Soon, Rezus’s lips parted slowly. His eyes remained fixed only on Psyche.
“Move aside.”
“Hah……. It’s so hard being the weak one, isn’t it?”
Helios mumbled complaints but obediently followed Rezus’s command. After he left, a long silence returned.
“…….”
Psyche quietly observed Rezus’s face, backlit by the light. Though his cheeks were sunken and shadows lay beneath his eyes as if he had lost a lot of weight, he was far from looking gaunt.
Instead, it only accentuated his dark skin color, black hair, and red eyes, further emanating his inherently dangerous and decadent atmosphere. His naturally large frame and tall height also contributed to highlighting that atmosphere.
She slowly examined him up and down, then met his eyes again. It was a gaze whose depths were difficult to read, but judging from the gloomy air surrounding him, she could tell he had not been living comfortably at all.
